I have an Xbox 360 Elite with a wireless controller, I was wondering if it's possible to use it via the IR port on the Studio XPS 1647 ?

Rather not buy the PC version

You can google both questions as they are both possible but I am not sure if the Xbox controller works via IR port maybe the bluetooth. I know the PS3 controller uses bluetooth. I have a Xbox controller hooked up via USB. Works like a charm but of course only certain games enable the use of a controller.

The PS3 uses regular bluetooth, so you can use that, and the XBox 360 USB controller works fine with the right driver. The wireless one, however, uses a completely proprietry transmitter/reciever protocol, so won't work on generic bluetooth or IR. You can buy a USB receiver that will enable you to connect a 360 wireless controller to any PC, but this obviously isn't as elegant as it working through bluetooth, and you'll have to spend money on the receiver.

Blame MS for making their controllers transmit a proprietry signal instead of a standard one.

Won't work with infrared, for that to work it needs direct line of sight, which would be useless for a game controller.
