I just don't turn mine off, except for windows updates (but only a restart) and flying. :D

EDIT: I do of course put it in sleep, and Vista's sleep is stable enough for me that I can do it for a few weeks without any side effects.

Just leave it on, or put it to sleep instead of turning it off.

you wanna browse the internet using the command prompt?

    Pictures wont look pretty.

A lightweight linux distro might be a good option.

Nope, never heard of such a thing. The closest you can get to it though is if you get one of those super high-end ASUS desktop boards that have the built-in Linux OS with a web browser and stuff built into the motherboard on some flash memory.

yea, my friends asus, which is a laptop has it. Seemed pretty cool, wonder why it hasn't been made as a downloadable program.

Because it resides in a flash chip on the motherboard... The closest you can get to that is buy installing some minimal linux distro on a flash drive and use that when booting.

well it seems you dont really know what linux is...

its an Open source operation system (OSOS lol) witch is free to download and you are free to modify it as you please.

its a fast and efficient operating system, witch offers some compatiibility for windows apps, souch as games, office, etc. (the free one is called wine, without it, linux can only run programs written to its format, a bit complex.

my favorite ditribution of linux is ubuntu, its easy to use and friendly to the eye ( yes, linux also has eye candy beyond mac osx and windows vista *psshht*)

ubuntu can be found at www.ubuntu.com

also, you could go to http://www.linux.com/distributions/ and check out all the linux distributions available.

if you wish to install it , you need to make the partitions to ext3 format, witch i think is much faster than NTFS witch windows uses.

so, anyone interested can go and take a look at the wide world of distributions of linux.

    cheers

I use sleep as well. It's very quick to sleep it and come back on in Vista. Also one of the things I like much better about Vista over XP. Sleep/Hibernate etc actually WORK all the time.
