So, this is the second time I've been unable to answer a technical question on my own, this makes me sad... But I'll live.
The problem is the following.
I've begun playing the Battlefield Bad Company 2 beta quite a bit and I've recently found that my lacking FPS is caused by my somewhat outdated CPU, which I really should have concluded earlier, but spilled milk and all that. So I've been looking into upgrading and quite honestly, I have no idea what my options even are. I've been unable to find any compatibility related sites that could even as much as inform me what current CPUs are suited for my machine, so here I am, asking people far wiser, more clever, and most likely better looking than my self.
As said above, my computer is a Dell XPS M1730 and to my knowledge they all have the same Mobos which should make it easy, however as said, it hasn't been.
I appreciate any help you can give.

Welcome to the forums
It can accept a T9500, but a T 9300 Mobile is probably your best price/performance option -
x9000 is the best for the 1730

No you cannot, the M1730 uses a PM965 and can only accept 800MHz FSB processors, the processors you can upgrade to are the T8100, T8300, T9300, T9500 and the X9000.
Of course with the X9000 you get certain privileges - you get to unlock the overclocking option in the BIOS up to 3.4GHz, and of course, there's Unclewebb's hack to push it up even further than 3.4.
PS, your CPU can only do much, what GPU are you using? If you're using an 8700M GT SLI, it's a big problem for intense gaming on high graphics options. An 8800M GTX SLI is better; & vice versa, the 9800M GTX SLI being the highest you can upgrade to. -

I'm working with ThrottleStop some time now. I managed to run my X9000 @ 3.8GHz stable now. It gives this rig a real performance boost. It's like a new laptop now.
I did also a first 3dMark test and got 16246 points. I guess I get higher results when I tweak my notebook system some more. There's more potential with the M1730. Especial with the X9000Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015
