Hey guys, my XPS M1730 Native Resolution is 1920x1200 and when set to that I get crisp clear, well everything.
but now my eyesight has become a bit worse and I feel a lot more comfortable on 1280x1024, but when i set it to this I keep getting bugged by Nvidia telling me my display can be improved, also it doesnt look HALF as good as being set to 1920x1200, the text looks a little blurry.
Does anyone know ?

if you are setting a lower res than your LCD's native res, you will get a less crisp image as the image has to be upscaled to use all the available pixels. therefore the ratio is no longer 1:1.
not much you can do sadly... -
Yeah, LCDs cant actually change resolution like CRTs can. It's actually still in native resolution (1920x1200), but trying to fit pixels to the resolution you're using, so it'll never look quite right. Well, technically something like 960x600 would look fine because then it's just displaying two of the same colour pixel in a row.

as for the blurriness, it's been mentioned before that LCD screens (contrary to CRT monitors) have a fixed number of pixels. the screen can only attempt to repesent non-native resolutions by stretching the image. the problems start when you try to scale a resolution that is, for example, 2/3 of the screen's native resolution. since the screen can't use 1.33 real pixels to show one "virtual" pixel, you start getting blurriness, uneven edges etc. -
thanks guys, I guess thats cleared it up, it does have that kind of "stretched" look

Have you tried raising the DPI on Windows? It's set to 96 by default, but I just raised it to 120 and most things are bigger, but not blurrier. To change the DPI, right-click on the desktop, select Personalize, then select Adjust font size (DPI) on the sidebar.

x2 for changing DPI...you can do custom, as well if the 120 is just too big or makes stuff look funny...Chrome didn't like 120...
Blur on lower resolution?
