Hey guys I got myself an xps 1730 notebook and I had a few questions, would appreciate any response, thanks

Here is my system specs: 2.8 ghz extreme core 2 duo + dual x2 SLI 8800 gtx cards, windows vista ultimate 32 bit operating system.

    1. I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit version, and I was wondering how I would be able to change to the 64 bit version.

    2. Which operating system is best for gaming, regular vista, vista ultimate 32 bits or vista ultimate 64 bit.

    3. I play a lot of Age of Conan and when I tried playing, got a msging saying I had to update to service pack 1 in order to run the game the best. How do I upgrade my service pack 1 from the automatic updates on my computer? It doesn't show me that the update is available, how do I get it?

    4. Also when I started to play age of conan, it gave me this msg before the game booted: "you appear to be using an outdated video driver that may behave unstably with our game. It is highly recommened you update your video drivers to at lease verson nVidia Display Driver Forceware release 169.21 or later."

The current driver that came with the computer is 7.15.11.6755, which video driver update sholuld I downlaod for the best gaming experiance and where can I downlaod it?

    5. And can someone refresh my mind on how to install new videocard drivers? Do I seperately install videcard drivers for each card or does the system automatically installs on both my video cards when I'm installing the driver?

To install new drivers, can someone double check the the steps here --> A. uninstall current drivers from the control panel B. Restart the compuer C. After reboot, install new drivers D. Restart again... <---- is this how to install new drivers?

    6. I read a while back of someone hitting a high score of 15,000+ with 3dmark 06 with overclocked cpu. Which driver did this person you? anyone know?

    7. How do I check if I'm running both video cards in sli cmpared to running just one videocard. Back when I turned on my compujter their was a small nvidia icon on the lower right hand corner of my screen on my so I clicked it and it went to a sli configuration screen, but not I can't find that screen where it shows the stats of my viedo card. Do I have to look in the bios to make sure im running both cards?

    8. Is the best videocard drivers from that laptop2go webpage?

    9. And finally, how are you guys finding the 174.xx driver on the offical dell.com webpage? The latest driver I see available to download is the 167.55 driver.

Thanks for reading and taking the time to read my thread, please feel free to reply, would greatly appreciate it.

    1. You will need to find all the correct drivers for your hardware and obtain a 64-bit vista dvd. Check www.dell.com -> support and downloads -> drivers and downloads ->m1730 for latest drivers. You might be able to discover some 64-bit drivers there as well!

    2. All are the same... no difference in my opinion

    3. Your (video?) drivers are probably not "accepted" by Vista SP1 install. Either download the whole thing standalone, but I would think Dell has updated drivers on their site mentioned above

    4. see above

To install video drivers, what you do (uninstall, reboot, install, reboot) is fine. Both your GPUs will be installed at the same time as far as I know.

    8. lv2go has lots of drivers, and most of them don't work with sli :s (according to user comments). You will have to scour the site to find good ones... and that's different for everyone.

    Hope this helps!

Hey guys I just got my 1730 with dual 8800gtx's and extreme 2.8 ghz core 2 duo notebook, and it had vista ultimate 32 bit installed. Now whats the difference between this version between ultimate 64 bit and vista home (regular version) Also when I search for video drivers to downbload, it says vista 32 bit and vista 64 bit as my choices. Which driver would I download? I know vista home is 32 bit but would vista ultimate 32 also use the same videocard driver? thanks and appreciate any help!

edit: btw my drivers for my video card is showing 7.15.11.6755, what driver would this be? I can't read this, has too much numbers

your windows is 32-bit, so you download the 32-bit driver.

    regarding 32bit 64bit...

vista home premium comes with 64-bit also.

you need to re-install/re-format windows if you want to change from 32-bit to 64-bit, you also need to have a retail copy of the windows vista cd if your installation disk does not comes with 64-bit version of windows.

i dont think you fully understand the concept of 32-bit and 64-bit...

windows ultimate is not different 32/64bit wise to windows vista home premium. the difference is that; you just get windows ultimate more tool or features to play around with, and you can also download windows ultimate extras.

You will want drivers from laptopvideo2go.

Dell does not give very much support for their video drivers (almost none) and lv2g enables you to load the desktop drivers on your laptop, this is why you need the modded .inf. The modded .inf allows you to use these drivers for your mobile card.

I would think that the drivers on lv2g are the same as on nVidia's (but I am not 100% sure). The drivers on dell's page are ones they have packaged strictly for each machine (they do this like once a year).

I would try a few drivers from the 174 series.

    Ciao

I'd say this thread is fine.

When it says Vista 32-bit drivers, it applies to all versions including Home, Ultimate, Business, Enterprise, etc. So yes, all you need is the one that says 32bit and thats fine. The same goes for 64-bit. :)
