Anyone tried the latest 4.46 beta? It does control the fan, but I couldn't figure out the right setting.

There's only one fan in Speed, so I set desired to 10% and max 100%. Then in the config, there's 1 GPU, 1 HDD, 2 ACPIs, 8 CPUs, etc. At idle, they are all around 50C. So I set desired lower range to 50-55, just above their normal idle range; higher range to 60-70. The fan does keep running at minimum speed. But after some light browsing, it starts doing weird 2 second burst every 15 seconds or so.

Anyone know the right settings for these? I'm all about keeping it quiet while browsing, streaming video, etc. I already set the default video card to Intel, so it's actually not bad at all. This is mostly for fun. Also, when I'm on dual monitor with TV, nVidia automatically take over the second monitor, so the avoid GPU trick no longer work.

Somehow even after I removed the software, the settings are still taking effect. The fan is running at very low speed all the time, which is not the case before I tried it.

Weird and worried. Going to rebuild.

I think it grows on me. Even after restoring from a backup long before trying this software, the fan is still running at low speed. Does SpeedFan write settings into firmware and having some permanent effect? Or am I getting crazy?

By "factory reset", you mean in SpeedFan? Or somewhere on nVidia. Also I can't find the "profile" for nVidia. I only have a nVidia in Control Panel with 3D, Display and Video settings.

I never heard of SpeedFan and my fan does the exact same thing. It always has, since day 1: fan is off, then bursts on, then turns off, then blasts on, etc. XD Are you on BIOS (UEFI) A14??

Yes, A14, fresh install with all factory drivers. By default, the fan burst even on idle. You can go into nVidia in Control Panel, change Global setting to use Integrated graphic, then add game to use nVidia if you play. This will greatly reduce the fan burst to almost nothing while doing light tasks like browsing.

But when I connect to TV, nVidia controls the second display, so all the fan problems come back. I'm looking for a easy solution to just let the fan constantly run at lower RPM in those situation.

If anyone knows how to set it, please share your findings. Thanks.

SpeedFan beta allows you to set the fan speed (I just tried it) but it's very flaky and the fan resets in less than a second after a speed is applied. Enabling "auto" mode causes mouse pointer freezing every few seconds and causes the fan to act trippy.

Is it possible SpeedFan saved some setting permanently in BIOS or something? Somehow after remove the software and even re-image the whole Windows, the fan seems still running at the lowest speed I set earlier. Not sure if I'm imagining it, or the apartment get warmer. I set it too low, like 5-8%, so it's hard to tell.
