There is some weird issue with Battlefield 2 Bad Company and random freezes with looping sound that kills the whole system (hard reset required).
First I blamed my OC'ed GPU, but after I have done some research I found that thread on the EA forums:
    EA Forums

The issue is in Punkbuster and Realtek sound driver incompatibility, but XPS has the IDT driver, which is also very buggy piece of smth. The symptoms are 100% same as described on that EA forum thread, I've tried to reinstall my audio drivers, disable all enhancements - no results.
Running on a W7 64U fresh install now, but remember having such issue in the past for some time, and no issues with windows driver instead of IDT.

So my question is if anyone have same problem, maybe there is a solution for the IDT audio as well?

I think I had this problem.
I dont remember the exact fix but this is what I have done to the XPS1645 I once had:
Disable Realtek. <---I do not remember it affecting BC2 or not but it definitely made listening to music unenjoyable.
    Updating Graphics card
I have read that OC'ing does affect it though. Let me look through my posts and see if I can find what fixed it.

Kay, I dont see how i fixed it but I think the gfx card is getting too hot and underclocking itself.

try forcing the clock to stay at stock clocks by setting it to that on a OC program.

Yeah, but the thing is there is no realtek chip in XPS. It was working but i guess with a new game or Punkbuster update it started to hardlock my system again, tried every darn solution out there.. :(
My GPU is OC'ed but it should not affect the game because it did not do so before.

    ISSUE SOLVED COMRADES!
I was ready to give up with this game, tried almost every single solution/combinations. Finally I thought of the soundchip, it is internal but there is some sort of Creative X-Fi audio chip in XPS 16 laptop, so I decided to install Creative software from the CD and give it a try.
IT WORKED, played for a week (4 hours +) no freezes! Unbelievable..
Hope that will help someone as well!
