Something really strange just happened with my sxps 1640 that I've had for like a year. I had it unplugged and it went into hibernation when the battery was low. Then when I plugged it in the charger just shut down, as in the light turned off and it wouldn't charge anything.

I tried unplugging it, waiting a while, putting it into a different wall socket, same problem. It'll turn itself back on after maybe 10 seconds. It seems to charge with the computer off, and I can use the computer with the battery out.

Just really curious what the problem is and if there is a fix before I call dell.

I just put the battery back in while it was asleep, fired it up, and now it's actually charging.

I still want to know what happened so i can get it fixed. I need to get my lcd screen replaced anyways (again).

    Edit: It just quit again.

Edit2: I turned it off, let it charge, and for now it seems to be good again.

Happens randomly to my 1645 aswell. Just unplug battery and reconnect and problem gone. Maybe dust or something in the connectors

i wish that would fix it for me. It seems the only way I can get it to work with the battery is to charge while shutdown then run with a full batt.

Ususally the light on the charger will flicker back on, but sometimes (after a few attempts) I need to leave it unplugged for a while.
