Isn't the standard warranty of an XPS is 1-yr onsite? I know I didn't pay anything extra to upgrade my warranty, but they offered to come out and replace my trackpad without even asking.

EDIT: Now I see you are in Canada -- I was referring to the US.

I'm in Canada too. I sent mine to have the screen replaced a couple of weeks ago. It's still at the shop. Apparently, a part was in back-order. I hope the Canadian technicians show better workmanship than their US counterpart. :)

On phone with them now. The guy (Phillipeno Call Centre) Is currently filling out the request for a tech to come :) He is very nice and had no problems reversing what the other guy did.

Some advice from my experience - please make sure the tech knows what he / she is doing before you ever let him / her touch your laptop. Someone was sent onsite to replace my keyboard and damaged my laptop in the process  and caused other problems on my system. Chances are the tech sent may not have worked on many xps 1640 (if not at all - like my tech). Also do not let them take your laptop apart, they do not need to remove the bottom to replace the keyboard (which I found out after the fact!). We trust that who is sent knows what they are doing but it is not always the case - if you see something you don't like - tell him/her to step away from your laptop or else! ;) And call Dell right away!

^How are you supposed to replace the keyboard without removing the bottom panel first?

wrong, after taking apart the 1340 many times, the only way to remove the keyboard/top asembly is to remove the bottom panel.. the screws for the top panel can only be accessed from inside.
