A problem cropping up more and more of late is a BSOD when the machine is coming out of sleep mode, or when the hood is lifted after sleep mode.

The cause of this has been determined to be a Microsoft update patch.

See this thread on the Dell Forums about people having the problem and it's resolution:

there is a windows update that apparently only affects 64bit vista. Micosoft have since removed it, i have forgotten the KB number actually, i had to do a system restore to a point in time before the windows update.
    ...found the KB, its 973879

Dell know about it afte being informd by microsoft i think...

I've been getting BSODs since the most recent windows updates were installed last night. I uninstalled them all and everything seems to be back to normal for now.

sorry my friends.. the problem isn't caused by that microsoft fix for me..
    i've read over internet..

my.. is a win32k.sys bsod that occour ALWAYS when change the icon size of my folder, or increase dpi size..

That problem is apparently caused by newest catalyst 9.8 (officially downloaded from ati site..).

But for now.. i don't wanna remove that driver.. hope in a fix sooner..

    Anyone with same problem??

    thanks a lot

I just installed some Windows updates and got some BSOD.. this is after I used the fix above last week to solve the previous BSOD.

    This is what's newly installed:

Security Update for MS Win (KB972260)
    Update for MS Win (KB969058)
    Update for MS Win (KB973874)
    Win IE 8

Are there known BSOD probs with the above list?

My OS is Vista Home Premium 64, and the dell sxps 16 is barely 2 weeks old
