I just received a brand new HDMI cable in the mail today.

I of course tried it out on the TV and to my suprise the audio was coming out of the notebook and not the TV.

After a bit of fiddling I figured it out:
Right click on the speaker icon in the system's tray
    Click "Playback devices".
Right click on "Digital Audio (HDMI)".
    Click "Set as Default Device".

    Enjoy

I am going to order an HDMI cable... is there any specifics in those cables or any of those would work? I am seeing advanced cables and high quality cables and other marketing bla bla bla... is there anything I should know before grabbing any cable off the shelf for my xps 1645?

Also note that some GPU drivers from ati's site do not have the ati HDMI driver and will require you to install it separately.
The drivers from dell.com do have the HDMI driver included

As for the cable. It's an ordinary HDMI cable. I paid 1.50 UK Pounds for mine. I'm not using it heaps. I got it off ebay and it's only going to be used when I'm out and about...

Having said that. If I were using it on a regular basis I'd probably shell out a little more money for a good cable. I'm not sure what different it makes but you get what you pay for I say.

Bluechan, more expensive cables will not be better. As long as the HDMI cable meets the HDMI standard, it's fine.
Gold HDMI cables blabal will NOT give you better quality or features

So the extra shielding and the extra flux capacitors don't help at all?
