Can anyone who has the XPS 15 and uses it on campus let me know how well it works out or what experience you have had with it? Is it good as a general media center and/or do you take it to class?

honestly, it's not different from most laptops. ive used probably like 3 laptops since i've been in college

    Inspiron 1720 (17'')
    XPS m1530 (briefly)

    and the XPS 15

    Pros of XPS 15:
Optimus w/ nvidia GT420m (i know some people hate it) but my laptop runs noticeably cooler than my friends laptops when doing daily stuff. Battery life should also be improved because of optimus

1080P screen is awesome for watching HD movies and gaming (tho gaming will have to be at a lower resolution)

Speakers: better than majority of laptops. obviously not as good as real dekstop speakers, but still nice for watching movies.

    webcam: HD skype :)

touchpad. ive always hated using the touchpad on my xps m1530 and inspiron(not convenient to use a mouse in class). the touchpad on the xps 15 is probably one of the best i've used. doesnt spazz out. doesnt go unresponsive. love it.

    Cons:
Not that small. When i compare the xps 15, xps M1530, and inspiron 1720, the xps 15 is in the middle. the width is about the same size as the 1720.

it's also not the lightest laptop. for weight/ carrying it to class, its about as heavy as any other 15'' laptop.

no VGA / DVI port. when i have to do in-class presentations, we have this lil media hub thingy that you can hook up ur laptop to for the projector. XPS lacks these ports and instead has a mini-display port / hdmi, so i have to carry around a hdmi -> dvi.

btw, depending on which classes you take, 95% of the time you won't need the laptop in class and like 99% of the time, people who do bring their laptops bring it to go on facebook/not pay atttention to the professors.
