The first ATI Catalyst 10.3a is out. Lets install it in our ATi enabled laptops and see the improvements here.

    Download here

    Official Notes:
This ATI Catalyst™ driver update will unlock new performance improvements on top of the already previewed features in the initial Catalyst™ 10.3 Preview driver we sampled you in February. This driver will be available to download on March 17th from undgerground.amd.com and it will be called "Catalyst 10.3a Preview". On March 24th we will post the official Catalyst™ 10.3 WHQL certified on amd.com. The difference between the two is that Catalyst™ 10.3a Preview will contain future Eyefinty 6 updates and an Alien vs. Predator optimization which the Catalyst™ 10.3 WHQL posting does not have.

Gosh! I am so excited :D

By the way, the Notebook release doesn't include the WDM/HDMI audio driver, Hydravision, or AMD Drag & Drop Transcoder. BUT the desktop version does and it's compatible with the Mobility series, so what you need to do to install the full CATLAYST 10.3a update is install the Mobility/Notebook driver package which will install the display driver and Catalyst Control Center, and then install the one intended for desktops that will install the rest including a significantly newer HDMI audio driver.

Why is whenever I install these, during the install it says "installed with warnings". I open the log file and I don't see any warnings. Any ideas?

Anyone else experience flash freezing up your browser after the install? Using both flash release, and the beta release with hardware acceleration.

Try to uninstall and reinstall flash player.

Just ran a 3dMark06 basic benchmark and got disappointed with 7100 score :(

    Edit:
I also see a weird issue, not a big concern but still. The information center doesnt show the catalyst version and shows the logo of Ati FirePro on the top right. It should show Ati Radeon I suppose. It has been showing wid most of the Ati drivers i have installed. Someone please comment on this.

    Hi gaah,

Are you saying we should install the Notebook 64-Bit version setup first, then run the setup for the Desktop 64-Bit version?

Or, just use the Desktop 64-Bit version?

Desktop version doesnt include Mobility drivers. Install Notebook driver first then update the rest with the desktop version.

Could someone please advise if I need to uninstall the mobility CCC before installing the desktop CCC to get the missing features ??

FYI, I am getting slightly lower 3Dmark06 scores with the 10.3a compared to 10.3 preview or 10.2. It also appears my 5830 is slightly less stable when trying to Max O.C. speeds.

    3Dmark06 scores;

    Default settings:

    10.3 preview 8,050
    10.3a........... 7,980

    Max stable O.C. 625 / 1125

    10.3 preview 10,270

    10.3a.......... 10,150

Note; was able to run OC speeds of 633 / 1133 with 10.3 preview and was getting 10,325 average, (new driver crashes beyond the above settings)

First uninstall the old catalyst. Run driver sweeper to remove the left junk. Install Mobility drivers then over wright with the desktop drivers. Even i have faced the lowers score in 3dmark.

Look at my signature, I have an HP envy with 5830 (1GB GDDR3). It appears that there is a huge discrepancy on this GPU with regards to OC capabilities, some envy owners can't get above 525 core speeds. I beleive it is just luck as to what 'grade' of chip you get, just like CPU's. Unfortunately the major limitation for the envy is the 128 bit memory bus width, I can actually run the 5830 up to 700 or so but the memory can't keep up.

    Thanks for the reply.

Just to clarify a few things; I have already run the 10.3a install over the 10.3 preview (loaded at clean install). For some reason the custom install option where I chose to update just the driver also went ahead and updated CCC.

So I am not sure if I should run 'DriverCleaner' (which is very aggressive) on just the CCC or everthing but the drivers? Seems every time I use this app I end up having to remove all the AMD / ATI files and start over from scratch....

I have had issues just using ATI install manager for 'uninstalling' before...Do these newer versions do a better job of selective uninstalls?

Also not sure which Driver sweeper app your talking about, could you provide more info please?

Thanks in advance for your help.

When you install the Desktop version, I thought we uncheck the drivers in that package (under Custom) and just install the other stuff... since the drivers are loaded in the Mobility version.

After you unistall ATI from its Install manager. Restart the computer. Basic components of the old drivers are still left in there so use Driver Sweeper. When you run driver sweeper just check ATI and click analyse then click clean. Restart the computer. The computer will go to low resolution with native drivers from MS. Then install mobility drivers and update the rest with the desktop driver. Hope that helps :)

Im still using the 10.3 beta's of whatever they were called that was released on strags a few weeks back. Why all the fuss to sidestep to this release, when it's just the same as the last, and you'll be getting the real ones in a week anyway?

Sounds like a lot of hassle.

    Read this info:

    http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/03/16/amds_ati_103a_catalyst_driver_update

There apparently will be some features available on this version that won't be included with the final version.

I've got samsung r522 notebook with ati 4330. I've installed 10.3a today (previously 10.3 preview). CCC doesn't load ;/ it says: driver is not supported.
    Had anybode similar experience?
I don't know what to do... On 10.3 preview everything has been working like a charm.

i tried reinstalling, driver sweeper, etc...

Can anyone please confirm if their 10.3a CCC panel shows the Hydravision tab (or any setting options) and do you see any Avivo settings listed under video options?

Install manager shows that both features are fully installed yet I have no options in CCC to control them (I even reinstalled them manually). They were readily accesable with the 10.3 preview CCC version.

I wiped all ATI / AMD down to just the MS VGA driver. Installed mobility 10.3a driver (which loaded everything even with custom install would not allow to uncheck some things) and then the full 10.3a desktop CCC package.

Well the driver itself seems stable for me (slightly lower OC's) It seems the CCC panel is what they really messed up on. The 'preview' version showed all the options for Avivo and Hydra, very strange, especially since install mng says they are installed

Guess I'll wait and try the final version next week and hope they 'fixed' the issues...

Any way to report these issues to someone at AMD who might actually do something about it ??

Edit: Removed, reason stated in below posts.

It has now been confirmed by others on the HP Envy threads that loading the desktop CCC does not work properly, you lose the controls for the Avivo video and Hydravision settings.

Hopefully these issues will be corrected with the 'final' release due out on 3/24/2010.

This is not correct. The 1.1mb download is an executable that launches a front end that downloads the rest of the package. It still includes everything.

    @evensen007

Thanks for clarifying that, I will edit or remove that from my post.

FYI the 'rest' of the package did not include the CCC update and the desktop version of CCC (that others said to install) does not allow any control for Hydravision or Avivo as stated earlier.
