How heavier is the 9-cell battery than the 6-cell battery for XPS 16 laptop. I mainly carry laptop in a backpack so I don't want to put very heavy load on my spine.
As for the heating issue (9-cell providing air circulation and all), I bought a portable Targus chillmat which is pretty light.

I seriously doubt you will even notice. The 9 cell is not flat like the 6 cell but juts out about 1cm downward; so lifts your laptop up a little. I find this aids in ventilation.

I have the specs at home and can reply with actual numbers tonight if need be.

The thing is that I lifted a friend's 9-cell battery from Dell Inspiron 13 (or 14), and it was way heavier than a 6-cell battery from Dell Inspiron (15) or even my old Toshiba (15 inch) laptop.
Plus XPS 16 in its default 6-cell config. is already ~6.4 lbs.
But if it's possible, it would be great if you could give the actual numbers!

    0.33kg (0.7 lb) 6-cell
    0.48kg (1.06 lb) 9-cell

    So 150g heavier.

Cool, thanks. That's an insignificant difference. Unfortunately I just called Dell (Canada), and the rep said that their stock of 9-cell batteries for i5 processors is finished and will likely not be back. The rep did say if I wanted to wait till Christmas time for newer models.
Well, I guess I'll have to wait or persistantly demand for 9-cell (cuz I don't really see significant performance edge for the upcoming processors over the current i5 450m/520m specs)

If you wait, you might run into the SXPS 15 or SXPS 17 :)

So go for it! You could be one of the first here to have one.

But then I also don't want one of the first one to "test" the new system for its stability :p
The major downside of waiting would be that I won't have any review of it and would basically be just be on my own luck. But yeah, on plus sides, there may be hopefully a better video card and/or processor :)

I'd like to think that Dell learned a few things this time around. If they listened to their customers at all, the new SXPS line will be very different compared to the current.
