It may be coming, but its not here yet. I cant find any configs or custimizations that will allow it. But there are some wikid deals on xps16s atm so refresh probably on the horizon

Seriously would they just hurry up though? I cancelled an order last week because someone (then 2 more) "confirmed" they were getting this GPU ... then all three actually confirmed later that they're not getting it. It was a techie/salesperson mistake.

I really want this, but I'm not sure I'm going to keep waiting. We're already through a quarter of the school year here in Australia, and I was supposed to order my work laptop before Christmas so it would be ready in January for the start of the school year here!

Please Dell, do something right after all the nonsense with the Studio XPS 16 and give us the new GPU already!!!

has Bill given any information whatsoever on what card is to be replaced and when? I think there are many people who are close to giving up on waiting and just going with another manufacturer at this point.

I don't get what you mean by the pictures. I know the SXPS 1640 won't be getting a GPU refresh at all.

I'm pretty sure the 1645 is getting the 5770. The BIOS was amended to support it sometime ago.

No he just told me that the 5730 on the XPS 16 is not going to happen.

I wasn't trying to point out anything other than DELLS drivers are generic they cover many systems and the one driver for the 4670 which I have for the 1640 is the same driver for the 3450/3670 as well and also covers many other systems, however, when I checked compatibility for that 5730 driver it does list the 1645/47 as compatible, but who knows could be an error. I have been told by several supervisors and Bill himself that the 5730 is not for the SXPS

Ok, I'm officially confused. I was under the impression that there are several people on the forum getting replacement machines that have confirmed that they will be receiving a 5730.

Mkelliny, when you say that you have been informed that the 5730 is not happening on the XPS 16 at all, does that mean that there will be no GPU refresh at all on the XPS 16, or only that it will not be the 5730 (a.k.a. there may be a new graphics card coming, and it could be a ATI 5000 series or something else)?

And who is "Bill?" :) (sorry, am new to the forum)

I'm pretty set on purchasing an XPS16, but now I'm wondering if I'm waiting for no reason.

Ok Ronson I'll explain I was the first one to get a replacement system configured with the SXPS, I went through all kinds of hassle for this card. Then I was told by several other managers and Bill the guy from DELL that has helped alot of us and I consider him rather credible has told me the same. I believe that there will be a GPU refresh soon, but as for now nobody really knows when. We/I thought it was coming soon, but apparently it's not as quick as I believed it would be.

Thanks for all your effort to get the information Mkelliny. The good news out of it is maybe the SXPS will be getting a better GPU. Naturally, the bad side is the consumer is left hanging high and dry.
