    200GB 7200rpm HDD on XPS M1530

    hi, im wondering about the 200gb 7200rpm hhd that is an option if u are going to order the m1530..im just wondering, is there a major difference in performance compared to, lets say, the 250gb 5400rpm hdd? and dos the 7200tpm hdd have the clicking noise problems?

    I have the 7200 RPM 200 GB HDD and it's a little loud, but nothing abnormal. It's normal HDD noise. And I'd say it's noticeably faster than a 5400 RPM HDD. I'd go with the 200 Gig one.

    well the 7200rpm hdd makes programs and games load faster....thats it....
    it does run a bit warmer and faster....and is a bit more noisier....
    if u r bent towrds performance go for the 7200rpm....if towards comfort and business kind of stuff go for the 5400rpm....
    the 7200rpm will be useful only if u play games, do photo-editing, rip dvds or rendering where u wud need the extra speed....

    what about the heat emitted? is it hotter than the 5400rpm? if so, by how much?

    Heat emitted is supposedly higher, but my 250 7200RPM runs at only 39-40 degrees, so it really isnt hot hot. Hard drives being noisy at 7200RPM is really a fake assumption. I've gotten 2 m1530s each with 250 7200RPM drives and they are both completely silent and there really is no heat. There is warmth under the wristpad, but its like, you know its there, but its not warm warm.

    The only sound I hear from my M1530 is the fans, which are not bad at all.

    Did both of yours come with Samsungs?

    My replacement system is coming with a Samsung, but I already told Dell I am keeping my Seagate.

    Yes, both of them were samsungs identical in make. You can always just take it out of your Seagate frin the old one and install it into your new system lol.

    I dont get why people dont like Samsungs though, having seen tests from both, the Samsung does have a high burst rate as well as a higher min transfer rate. Seagate Momentus brand name wise seems cooler than Samsung.

    Of all the 7200rpm drives I have had in laptops the noise is really not that much louder then a 5400.
