    Hi2all,

I just wanted to double-check if it's possible to drop in a Santa Rosa "refresh" into an older M1300 (Nov. 2007, std. SantaRosa w/ T7500, latest BIOS) and if it makes sense to...

I can buy a "boxed" T9300 for about €300, which does not exactly translate into a cheap upgrade so before I do so, I'd like to know if anyone's done it and if the performance boost is worth it...

    Both processors are ~35W...

Thx for any reommendations in advance :)

Yes, you can use a T9300 in the M1330. You may have to update your BIOS, but otherwise it should be plug and play. Depending on what you're doing, you may or may not notice a difference in performance. There may also be a noticeable improvement in your battery life, but in general, if you're not doing any CPU intensive tasks, I don't think it's going to be a worthwhile upgrade for E300.

For the record, here's the service manual for the M1330:

Thx for the feedback. I agree that the performance increase would have to be impressive to sink €300 into said upgrade... .

Battery-usage-wise, I did note in my op that both processors use the same amount of power (~ 35W), despite the 9300 being a 45nm (vs. the 65nm T7500). I would have assumed that the refresh would be less power-hungry, but it appears not to be the case here...

Try to find a cpu in the p-range from intel.
They are all on 25W tdp.

Yes, I'm aware they are, however if you were to buy a brand new 1330 today, the best you could get is a T9500 (or any other 800MHz FSB CPU) and so I've come to the own conclusion that there is no 1066 FSB support... :(

You can't use and P or Q processors. Don't worry about TDP, the new processor will use less power despite. TDP is a poor measure of power consumption. The T9300 will run well and feel a lot faster than the T7500, especially if you are maxing your current CPU.

While the rated TDP for 800MHz FSB Socket P 65nm and 45nm are the same, the rated TDP only refers to the maximum power consumption. At idle and light loads, you are probably going to use less power with a 45nm processor, even if it has the same TDP as your old processor.

    Would a P8400 work? It has a 1066 bus.

Thx for all the useful feedback :)

Extra power AND extra battery life does make the upgrade more attractive :D

    Thx again
