Im in a similar situation to you. I also have the 128GBSSD as my main for the OS and am considering a 500GB as a second drive but not sure which is the best to get. I know that there will be 7200rpm 500GB before end of the year so maybe you should wait till then :)

From what I can gather the 7200 will not make much of a difference - especially since you already have a SSD as your OS drive. I was hoping that folks would chime in who have the 500's with their experience.

I always use Seagate. Very silent and cool. It is also the latest 500GB drive released so I would figure that it is most up to date.

I would wait a bit. The Hitachi 5K500.B is about to go Retail, and could be the best out of all the 500gigers, mainly due to the insanely low power consumption.

Andy - low power consumption is nice - and would be a great add to a 128SSD OS drive. I missed out on the sale so will look at this when its released.

The Western Digital drive is probably the better 500GB drive since it uses to 250 GB platters.

What is the advantage of 2 250's?

    The 5K500.B has 2 250GB platters and states a R/W power consumption of 1.4W (1.1W less than the 2.5W of the WD5000BEVT).
