Well, my replacement 1645 arrived yesterday, and I've had the opportunity to load it up and run some tests.

I can say that this is different than my first 1645. It says that the specs are the same, yet it performs??

I can lock the GPU with Riva Tuner, Throttlestop is ON, Prime 95 8-Threads, small FFT's, and run FurMark; and the temps are low. I mean, I'm getting the same temps from the stock paste that I got with GC Extreme. I ran this test for exactly ten minutes, and the GPU temp did not go over 84c. Air temp is 65F, and no laptop cooler. This never would have happened with my old machine.

Chrome and Itunes, temps are at 47C??

I watched a Blu Ray DVD and no stuttering, huh?

No lagging with the webcam, what??

No lockups with Flash? Are you kidding me? Straight out of the box, with Dell's stock software and drivers??

Bill, what did you guys change?

I'm glad that I gave Dell a chance to make this right.

This is the way that it should have run the first time.

I have to say that Vikram Rajpal in customer relations is awesome. He was polite and professional, he took my concerns seriously. He returned calls when he said he would, and followed up when he said he would. Go figure.

I decided to re-run the furmark, and prime 95 tests. My 1645 is fixed as I had no, zero, zilch CPU or GPU throttling. This from an i7-720 and RGB. If I had not seen it with my own eyes, I would have called bs.

This test is more than you sill see in a game for such a prolonged or sustained time. I'm a happy camper :D

Congrats man! I just got my brand new 1645 2 days ago and it has been working fantastically for me. I haven't really stressed it yet, but so far it's been amazing. Maybe they've fixed something in the newer ones, or perhaps it's just a matter of luck in getting one that has been put together well.

    Thanks.

I am very pleased. It's like night and day. I'm rarely at a loss for words, but holy cow. I guess that's what I get for buying a first gen product.

    Now, about that Ipad...

Glad to hear this one is working out for you! :D
My 1647 runs pretty smoothy, also! (at a little over 1 month old)

    Enjoy!

And, about that Ipad...when you receive it...send it to me! :p :p ;)

I was lucky that I could walk in and pick one up. 32GB, WiFi only. I have to admit, it's a pretty cool toy. My wife uses it more than I do. I'm afraid that I couldn't manage to get it away from her, even if I tried.

    Congrats on the 1647.

I keep thinking about it just sitting at home in the box... I shot someone from escalations an email about trying to get credit for this brand new unit transferred to something in the AW line....... I'm hopeful but also doubtful... is that possible?!

That's the thing about patches and the upgrading of standard set of software which is done for the newer batches.

Sometimes just a single thing: say the video drivers, will solve almost all the problems seen. I encountered similar things found in the first post, but after doing the video driver updates, everything worked like clockwork. :)
