    1645 + port replicator?

    Hi all,

    Anybody have any experience with the SXPS 16 and a port replicator? I have a Dell E-Port replicator (for Latitudes, same as this one here) kicking around my office and I'm wondering if it will be compatible with the 1645. From photos I found on Google, it looks like there is a port on the base of the machine that would fit a port replicator, but I'd like to know if anybody has tried using it and if they had any success with it.

    That "port" is just the battery latch to release the battery from the laptop.

    hah i'll be damned. a quick glance makes it look like a docking station port. guess i was being a little optimistic there

    oh well, thanks for letting me know that my eyes were deceiving me. i'll have to find somebody else who may need this replicator.

    When I bought my 1645 I just assumed there would be a docking station port on the bottom, as every other laptop I've ever owned has had one. I was disappointed to learn there isn't one. Now every time I take my computer somewhere, which is almost daily, I have to plug/unplug 4 cables: power, hdmi, usb, audio. It's not as bad as I first imagined it would be, but the cables do clutter the desktop to the sides of the computer.

    this is what i'm afraid of. although i only have to worry about the video and power cables, as everything else (mouse, keyboard, speakers, flash and external HDDs) i use goes through a USB hub.

    i'm wondering if i can't cheat a little bit and get USB to DVI/VGA/HDMI adapters... that way i can consolidate everything into just a power and USB cable.

    There are a few USB laptop docks floating around out there. Those are about the closest things I've seen to one of the old school port reps. Even so, it still is about the same as plugging all your stuff up with just a laptop it seems.

    Usually laptops under the business category comes with ports for docking stations. I haven't seen many (not 1 actually) "home" laptops with a docking station port...
