I bought XPS 1330 from Best Buy a couple of days ago. After reading SO many complaints here about systems with similar configuration, I am trying to decide if I should just return it for a peace of mind or if, possibly, my configuration has been improved and I won't have the issues. Alternatively, I am contemplating whether I should get Best Buy's protection plan for 2 years but they would only replace the laptop once. The deal there is great now so I am perplexed. The exact model is: X1330-146B.

I noticed that the battery is pretty meager. Otherwise, I am actually really enjoying using it.

    Return it. ;)

It has a graphics card that is defective! It can fail, which frys out the card and motherboard.

You can get a better computer for that budget, without having a defect issue. I suggest returning that computer, and filling out the Faq in a new thread in the "What NB should I buy section".

    +1 return in ;)
I have experience with BB's fishy return policies.
Knowing them they would replace it with a broken one.

Well, if you return it, you are going to have to pay 15% restocking fee

i say buy the highest warranty they offer, because with those, if they do not have your product, and yours broke, beyond geeksquad repair, so if its the mobo, it is, then you get store credit back...

I did. Called it "portable, affordable". I am down to three choices right now: Lenovo U330, HP dv3510nr (from Best Buy), or Sony Z (that I can't afford). And then there is always this whole world of Macbooks.

The I13 that I bought has a similar setup, with the Nvidia 8400m GS GPU, could that be related to the m1330 issue?

I am sorry, could you explain what could be related to the 1330 issue?

The i13 that I bought has the same GPU as the m1330, the nvidia 8400, does the same overheating issue with breaking the chip and the motherboard also exist in the i13 or is something with the design of the m1330?

I don't know. A lot of people on this forum are convinced that ALL laptops with nvidia8400 are defective but people's experience differs depending on their usage. I was contemplating getting Best Buy protection plan to have the peace of mind. Then I decided that I would have more peace if I just return it. But that Best Buy deal does seem amazing. And if I didn't decide to read more about my purchase, I might have never found out about the whole ordeal with overheating. However, defective or not, I realized that the battery life was simply unacceptable for me, so I am on my search again to find the right laptop.

You can always get additional warranty from Dell when you register your laptop with them. My BB HP conked out on me after 30 days which was passed the return policy and HP didn't recommend to bring it back to them for repairs.
