Hate to do this but I might cancel my order come Monday. There seems to be a lot of random issues with these laptops like the palm rest heat, uneven build quality, and power adapter largeness that all seem to break the deal for me. I'd wait for Adamo but I'm afraid its processor will be one of those slow ULV ones like the Macbook Air. I might just wait it out or get the 1330 if I do decide to cancel. It's a shame because it was so close to perfect for me =(.

    um, let's see

    2.4 ghz
    4gb ram
    wled
    320 gb 7200rpm
    vista ultimate 64-bit
    geforce 9400 (not a gamer)
    bluetooth

my estimated ship date is 1/27, but at this point i think it will be later

update: it had been in the build stage for the last several days, but i just called and it said it was in the testing stage, so i guess it's good it's still moving

Check out the VAIO Z as well if youre in this market. Its over a lb lighter with excellent build quality (eg. carbon fibre LCD lid). ... just bring your own SSD since they want $1500 (CDN) for the 256gb !!

I'm not a PC gamer either but I was worried that the 9400 card might not be able to display HD content up to 1080p with stuttering. I've tried searching around to see if this is an issue or not but I can't find anything. My current laptop is an HP dv2500t and it's terrible when playing anything greater than 720p (besides I've got BSOD syndrome with that laptop so it's really time to quickly move on).

Congratulations, I ordered the same configuration a couple of days ago and got a ship date of 1/13 so I'm sure you'll be getting yours much sooner. I'm hoping this configuration will run cooler than some of those reported 1640's.

This is 1 reason I'm getting a new system. My old comp wont play full HD, but I still chose the 9400M based on the info at Nvidia's site. I'll be finding out next month anyhow.

Do you think it's possible to call Dell up after I've ordered and change the graphics card if I don't want the 90W adapter? If the travel sized 65W adapter works with my current config, I'll just buy one of those and use it everywhere. Otherwise, I might just downgrade on the GPU and use that money to get an accessory or something.

I'm sure you can do it but they will probably cancel the order and start a whole new order with a different ship date. That's what my sales rep told me would happen if i decided to make changes after the first call.

You can, but any time you make a change to an order, your order is cancelled and a new one is made.

The process starts all over. :(

That's so sad!! I mean, I ordered on Friday so the change of the ship date won't be THAT substantial but still...maybe I'll ask them if a 65W adapter would work with it. I don't really care if a warning pops up on the screen whenever its attached. As long as it charges (albeit slowly) and allows me to use the computer for the whole day. I have a fairly powerful desktop at home that I use exclusively when I'm in the apartment. During the day, I'm in the medical school listening to lectures so I need an adapter that is more portable because I'll be carrying it around everyday.

If you need to add it, it would best to place the order separately...otherwise, it will cancel and the process starts all over. It's unfortunate. :(

It really depends what you want to do with the laptop. OS X is optimized for different things than Windows (media/photos/video making vs. gaming for instance). I hate Apple as much as the next guy but I think the different systems excel in different things, so you have to figure out what your main requirements are.

1340...Maybe that's because I'm so used to Dell. And, this would be my choice.

But, you need to weigh out the pro's & con's for each of them! ;)

Are you going to order it soon? :) Once I receive mine, which probably won't be until mid-Febr, I'll tell you how it goes. I was waiting for Centrino 2 + SSD to make a new laptop purchase. I was debating between the Sony Z and Dell and hopefully I made the right decision! Just know that the graphics card I have will make the power adapter huge, but I'm hopefully going to get them to give me a smaller one too for traveling.

Mine too, and If only I could get the same deal =( I'm waiting on the reviews and results. The 1640 thread doesn't seem to be turning out for the better, seems like there's reoccurring temperature problems.
"Bought the 1340 with the P9500 CPU, 9500M GPU, 128 SSD, BT, and LED screen for 1460 without tax. Free overnight shipping (but I'm from Nashville anyway) and I got the $200 gift card that will be coming in the mail in 6-8 weeks. Original price of the computer was 1819 without tax. On top of that, he threw in the Dell V305w wireless printer for $25--original price is $130. Was that a good deal? I tried to negotiate more but he stopped ahaha."
seriously...that's such a good price + the gift card. That's exactly what I want.

I had an EPP discount which helped a little. I'm sure if you call you can get some discount too! Also, the gift card promotion is still active if you give them the item number.

Call them, and see what they can do for you to get the $200 GC promotion to you. This shouldn't be that hard for them to process for you. They may have to process it separate from your current order.

They can alway e-mail you an E-Coupon at the end of the 6-8 weeks waiting period, also! ;)

I had 2 reps--one did the actual discounts and configuring and another did the GC. I forgot to ask about the gift card when I first configured the computer before buying so I called again to another rep and he added it and I bought it from him. He's the one who gave me the printer too and free next day air.

GC item number is 467-2822. At first they won't find it in the system but they'll eventually get to it. The supervisor has to add it manually since the computer won't let them do it. I don't even have anything to buy from Dell that I could use the gift card for and it expires 90 days after it's sent =(. I guess I'll try to sell it. Anyway, let us know how it goes!!

I configured the computer with the first person, then told her I'd think about it (she gave me a quote # through email), then I called another rep the next day for the GC. When he gave it to me, I bought through him. If you bought the computer already, I'd probably try and ask for it, but they might need to cancel your order and repurchase it.
