"According to multiple users on Reddit, some of Microsoft’s Office apps on the Play Store are being blocked including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. On the Play Store listing the usual “unsupported on my device” message will pop up and block the install."
Even though beta testing shows most play store apps run fine on chromebooks, Microsoft is now blocking office apps from running on chromebooks with screens bigger than 10.1 inches. You thought you were going to go cheap by getting a chromebook with app support and just use Office android apps? Microsoft says no, you will pay to use office.
Also "Core editing is available for free on Android devices with screen sizes of 10.1 inches or less. The extra features are available on Android tablets and phones with a qualifying Office 365 subscription."

Update:
Microsoft confirms Android versions of Office apps will get Chrome OS support.
http://www.androidauthority.com/microsoft-android-office-chrome-os-728131/
"So if your Chromebook can’t currently run those Android apps, it should be able to when the Chrome OS-Android beta period is over. One thing to note is that, per Microsoft’s own rules, any device that has a screen that’s bigger than 10.1 inches will limit the features of those Office apps for free. Users won’t be able to create, edit or print any files or documents from those apps unless they purchase an Office 365 subscription from Microsoft." -

So if i have an Office 365 subscription--which I do--Office for Android will work just fine on any Chromebook? Or only the Pixelbook and 10.1 inch devices?
-
AFAIK, any Chromebook that can run android apps will run 365. I could be mistaken. But I think I am correct.
Microsoft blocks Office android support on some chromebooks.
