Chromebook

Not much posting going on here in the chromebook section. so...

I just got a Dell Chromebook 13
Core i3, 4gb.
1080p Touchscreen with gorilla glass 4
32gb m.2 ssd (user upgradeable)

Any questions?

 

Some recent Chromebooks are fitted with eMMC flash drives (thus non-upgradeable) so yours has some upgrade potential. Could make a nice lightweight Linux laptop with very long battery life if you wanna ditch Chrome OS in the future, modded firmware should be available for your model. I did that on my Samsung XE550C22 and never turned back.

But as a normal Chromebook, it'll serve you well too.

Such as shame it can't run Windows given its rather good hardware...

 

Agreed: I plan to dual boot linux (probably gallium), as soon as I get some free time.
Disagreed: why would I want to install windows and ruin a good chromebook.

 

GalliumOS is probably the best choice for modded Chromebooks, given its out-of-the-box support of touchpad. Tried many mainstream distros on my non-explosive Samsung and all I got was a non-working touchpad. I can't always bring my mouse every time when I use it outside so deal breaker to me.

And for the Windows, well it's just my opinion, but there are just a number of important softwares that are not available in Linux, a good example being M$ Office. Yeah you have LibreOffice and OpenOffice in Linux, but unless they manage to fix the formatting issue with M$ Office so I don't work on my documents overnight only to find they don't show properly in M$ Office, I won't consider them true replacements, not when the majority of campus PCs and corporates use it. Me being a longtime Windows user doesn't help.

 

I just bought the Lenovo Chromebook N22-20, just for uni use mostly offline, and to upload online with Google Docs.

Looking forward to maximizing battery life when writing long academic papers on the go.

So overall not too shabby, seems insanely sturdy, has a little "handle" to carry it around and is water "proof"-ish with leaking possibilities from the laptop to the bottom.

Bought it for ~240€ or ~240$ - which seems like the average price (even tho it was on sale)
