My google account was set up in the beginning of android when you registered with a Gmail account. I never used that email etc. I want to change my account to my primary email so all my log ins are using the same email. How can I do this but keep my purchases.

I recently looked into this myself (same reason), and finally found the answer, which is most likely: No.
To paraphrase as closely as I can recall, only "certain types" of Gmail primary account emails can be changed, with the examples given being certain official, business, or school email addresses (.edu, etc). I think it specified that if the email is @gmail.com, it "generally" can't be changed.
I don't know if that means you can try to personally petition someone (or does an AI decide) to let you change it a case basis.
I don't remember exactly what Settings subpage you access to try changing it automatically, but it was somewhere in the Payment-related sections iirc (and not very obvious either, there's multiple similar settings about it).
For some reason, documentation on this specific question was inexplicably hard to find (buried amongst dozens of similar questions). I'll try to post a link later to the help Q/A where I got this from.kojack likes this. -
That was the information I got too.
Can I change the main address to my Google account?
