My trusty z71v finally borked on me a couple weeks ago. I'm pretty sure it's the screen. Has anybody ever done a screen replacement? Is it still possible to get a replacement screen for this laptop?

Yeah and it's able to run Pro/e / Solidworks pretty well with the nvidia geforce. No crazy assemblies but for modeling parts it works great.

Trying to salvage it or maybe make it a headless htpc for the bedroom.

Wow blast from the past, I bought the z71v from you guys. It even has the Geared2Play business card in the bottom on the laptop that came with it.

Just my initial gut feeling from working on computers for so long. Haven't had time to try to troubleshoot. It was running fine one day when all of a sudden the screen died on me. It was playing the normal windows sounds when trying to get it to come back on. It could be the video card too. Any tips on how to trouble shoot it?

Have you tried it on an external monitor?

Hey guys, I had a Z71v just die on me this year.

It had battery recharge problems only 1 year after purchasing it.
About a year ago it started to develop pixelation in the screen (noise bands of color). so I had it hooked up to an external monitor until the GPU died on me.

I tried everything under the sun to revive it (just short of baking the GPU in the oven), fully disassembled the unit and put it back together several times.

In it's final stages, the video output did not work at all, so it was pretty clear that the GPU died. Weird thing though is that it would seem to boot up, caps lock worked and everything... just no video output.

Hey Geared2play, I just had a Uniwill 258KA0 die on my today after 8 years of service, is there any info on any worthy replacements coming out from Asus this summer (before Sept this year)[ATI Radeon mid range to high range preference]?
