Okay I know the w3j is sturdier than the w7j which is sturdier than the cheaper A series a8jm. However, I don't know how an older model such as the z70va fits into all this and where it belongs. I am asking because I was a previous owner of a z70va and can say some good things about the build (I could push the lid in the middle and the whole screen would come down and lock into the latch with little flex) and am interested in getting another Asus, but don't know if their design department decided to cut corners on the build or not. I want something at least as sturdy as my former laptop.

I find the z70va on par with the a8jm, but I haven't played with both models enough. Just at the local pc place. If I had to pick I'd say the A series is a bit better, but then I might be speaking out of my ass.

Now I know I answered this question in depth in the other thread where I believe you asked this.... but I answer you again..

If you want a system that is on par with the Z70, then you could get an A8... same type of hinges, lock.... the A8 is entirely plastic though, which is a step backwards from your Z70. It's hard to compare based on the different sizes, but if you want a physical upgrade in the build technology, I'd suggest a W3...... Your Z70va can't even be a year old yet and I guess you don't even still have it... so you didn't get past that honeymoon period of 1 1/2 - 2 years where you might see problems with the hinges and so forth. The A8 is better than other A series models like the A2 and A6, but certain not better than the M6 (Z70 series)... but it's as close to what we see today as a replacement on that level.

Yeah I did ask that question on the other build quality thread, but it got buried in a bunch of "which car is better" posts. I know you gave the "current" Z series notebooks a score of 2, but that doesn't help me gauge the last generation Z series nor does the much touted attribute of the carbon fiber on the z70va help me determine its place in comparison to today's models, or today's models in comparison to it.
