    Hi there people,
this is rather bizzare - i was eating a fruit and a few drops fell onto the keyboard and slipped into the area between the edge and the spacebar.
the keyboard started acting up - the 'o' key gets pressed automatically randomly.. when i press 'p' i get 'p=' etc.
I am writing this from another computer right now.
    I was wondering

    1) how do i go about opening the computer and cleaning the keyboard?
(I am currently in a different country and will remain here for the next few months) and do not have the manual )

2)in the Meantime, is it safe to use that computer with an external keyboard - there was no sparking.smoking or noise - it was just 2-3 drops of juice.

    thanks!

lol once I was in an airplane the flight attendent was reaching next to me over this lady and spilt like 1/5 of a can of pepsi into her keryboard, talk about a stickly key...

    1) If you can find some compressed air maybe you can dry/clean some stuff out till you can get the junk out.

    2) you should be fine in the mean time, its an enclosed area inside the laptop, and it probably should dry soon anyway.

    hope this helps.

Lol... that'll teach her to just watch the dang spiderman movie 13 times instead of getting that excel spreadsheet done! ;)

actually at the computer lab I used to work at, only diet coke was allowed since it has sacharine (and not sucrose) and is not a good conductor - so spilling did not mean frying.

    1) I would like to clean it.. but have no idea how to open it- do i try to pry the kyboard off.. or do i try to open all the bazzillion little screws on the back?

(I pried off the spacebar key.. but the surface below is dry as bone.. it has two little rubber things below it which when pressed complete the circuit and the drops seem to have gone underneath the rubber stuff.)

2)It's been one day exactly.. and when i try to use it it works fine except for the random firings of the 'o' key and some of the other keys are wrongly mapped. but it powers up ok and works fine otherwise.

3)thanks for pointing me to the spills article - but my case seems slightly different - it was literally 2 drops of liquid.. im concerned that the drops will dry into a sticky conductive coating and will just spark n fizzle if i turn it on.

and im gonna wait for another 24 hours and report back..
thanks for the super-quick replies folk :)

[isnt it wonderful how things like this happen to you when you have a 3 year warranty on your laptop from a store in canada, but you happen to be halfway round the world in India]

Cleaning your keyboard probably won't make a difference, you're either stuck with a slightly malfunctioning keyboard and can use an external, or you can spring for a new keyboard, which thankfully tends to be $30-40.

There's that saying "you don't cry over spilt milk"... well you can cry over spilt OJ, because it's acidic. A couple drops isn't going to kill it though... but if the keyboard is sticky, take the keyboard out and run it under some warm water..... dry it off with a nice shake and buy a can of compressed air to blow the rest of the water out.

On your laptop.. there are two screws marked with a K> under the system... remove those. Then there are 3 pressure clips above the "Esc", "F8", and "Del" keys. Push them up towards the screen with a fine screw driver or something and the keyboard will pop up. Finally, simply pull up on the white connector holding the keyboard cable in (just about a 1/16 of an inch) and you'll be able to remove the keyboard.
