first of all, i tried searching the forum, but unfortunately usb is too short of a word or too common for the search, so i apologize if this is covered somewhere already

the problem is my sister is using an asus z33a notebook that she got over christmas. everything is great except occassional usb problems. out of the three usb ports, two of them frequently fails to detect the device connected. problem have occurred with the usb mouse, usb keys, external drives and printer. sometimes she could correct the problem by re-plugging in the device multiple times to get it to work.

does anyone have any idea what might be the problem or what i might ask her to try to correct the problem?

    thanks

I would be incliend to suspect bad ports and therefore, a bad mobo. It's worth it to check the drivers, make sure they're up-to-date and correctly installed. But if the problem persists with multiple kinds of USB devices, I'd get that repaired under warranty asap.

It could be because the lack of power the USB's have in order to detect and use it.

Since she has so many USB peripherals, it could be a good idea to get a powered USB HUB for the printer, external drives and such.

Ye havent really hear of any usb or other issue with the z33a. Pretty solid unit as it turns out. I would contact your vendor and see if they care....

    thanks for for the comments
just want to note that she usually just have a mouse and printer plugged in, and since a mouse uses very little power and the printer has its own power, it doesnt seem likely that it is due to not enough power provided
i'll double check the drivers just in case

i dont think she would like the idea of having to send the unit in for repair, as she uses it as her main computer at university, but i'll throw the idea at her to see what she thinks

    thanks again
