    Hi

    I got X51RL (t5250, 120gb hdd, 2gb ram, VistaPremium) model.
The other day (after about a month of use) Vista died on me and i couldnt recover the system in any way. I've been using XP for ages and decided to downgrade. So i've simply used xp installation disc to wipe out Vista off the system partition (full format) and installed XP Pro SP1 instead. Everything went well until i got to Power4 Gear, and whats more important - ATK0100 UTILITY driver + ATK Hotkey stuff.
When i try to install AKT Utility driver, it whines that the installation failed and thats it. It's just cant be installed for some unknown reason (yes, i have downloaded the right one from disastrously slow ASUS website..). However ATK Hotkey installs, except it doesn't work. The funny thing is that when i try to uninstall it, the system reboots

Either way, things arent too good cause now the function keys don't work. Or actually, some of them do, but some of them dont, which is quite odd. Like the brightness and stuff - they do work. But volume, wireless does not. Which also relates to another issue - the wireless card (atheros AR5007eg family) seems to work properly, but is unable to detect any network whatsoever. Yet, when i plug any USB wireless dongle, it will see networks around.

Finally, as far as Power4 Gear goes - also downloaded from asus website, for the right model - it installs as it should, but when i try to run it, i get an error message saying that the current OS doesn't support the utility. End of story.

My OS : Windows XP Pro SP2 (PL lang)

Been fighting with this stuff for looong hours now and i'm stuck now. Any help would be highly appreciated.

    PS

One more thing : for some very odd reason, when i want to turn the laptop off, it logs off as normally, but at the end, i end up having to hold the power button for 3 seconds for the laptop to turn off, after the black screen of : 'Now you can safely turn off the computer' pops up. Like a typical screen for PC systems from few years back.

The shutdown problem is caused by lack of ACPI drivers.

I suggest you try different versions of ACPI drivers. Are you sure you are downloading the XP versions // is there an XP version supported for this model?

About Power4Gear, don't worry about it and use a non-OS-dependent equivalent such as RMClock.

Yeah, until now i have figured out what causes the shutdown problem. I have read around various sites and found that people did manage to fully downgrade from vista to XP on this model. One of the direction was pressing f7 during the load up of installation, when it recommends f6 - scsi / raid drivers prompt. I have tried that but without any effect. Also, i have tried two different versions of XP Pro.

And as far as p4 Gear goes, i have already downloaded the software you recommend in your guide.
