All laptops produced today will have a wireless card, and yes you can connect to the web :)

You need a connection first though :)

Ditto......... you need to have a wireless router - or be around some place that has one...... but in terms of the notebook itself --- that's what centrino is all about. Legally a centrino notebook has to have intel's wireless card in the system..... that is all you need from the system standpoint to be able to access wireless internet...........

... it's like having a modem or nic card built in to access a phone line or an ethernet line....... there is more to process, but similiarly - without a phone line - a modem isn't going to do any good....

Wireless routers can be had for as little at probably $40... Asus makes some very nice units which are still under $80.....

Yup. CompUSA, OfficeMax, and Staples contantly have rebates dropping a B/G router down to $40.

... I wouldn't say they were great, but they'll work and they certainly are available.

... I'd suggest Asus' units as they are stylish, feature packed and a decent price......... (great if you bought it while you were picking up an Asus notebook obviously) ... but if you're looking to just go down to the local best buy or compusa and want something off the shelf, I'd suggest a Linksys any day or the week.

...... while on the subject though, D-link makes some cheaper SoHo stuff...... but their outdoor wifi units are unbelievable..... I recently set one up at my home and it has access for something like 7 miles........ I've only tested about a mile.... but it's awesome......and expensive....... just have to make sure to keep it secured or I'll be giving access to anyone in the county.....

All the wireless routers and wireless adapters already standardized by IEEE and support 802.11a/b/g. As long as the different brand can support IEEE 802.11a/b/g, all of them can work and compatible with another brand.
