I bought mine 2 months ago and it been nothing but trouble.

I had to send in my battery because it came with like a 60% wear. My OS vista premium 32bit is so useless. My computer crashed on me twice now. I sent it in 2 weeks ago because it opened up to a black screen and did nothing. I thought i had a corrupted hard drive, got it back a week alter and all asus did was reinstall vista and deleted all my info (not backed up).

And just now, my laptop is sitting in the other room broken once again. It froze randomly and when i restarted it tells me that "startup has failed" and asks me to restore, so i did, and it did nothing.

Now when i turn it on it just goes to that vista load up screen with the bar flow and freezes the frame. Does nothing else.

How can i asus to send me a new laptop :/

Lately I have been hearing a lot of bad things about Asus, except for the G series and everyone is trying to sell theirs.

Have you tried your luck with XP? Chances are that Asus has drivers for your model.

If you give more details on the crashes we could try to help, not just commiserate...

Maybe you got a bad one? I've had my F3SV-A1 for three weeks, and its fine so far. Did you stick with the base 1GB of RAM, or upgrade it to 2?

Well the laptop works well when running properly. But it seems like its always its always running at like 70%cpu usage. I got 2gb ram.

Sometimes when i shut it down, it does not and just stays at the "shutting down" screen and does not shut down. So i would have to manually shut it with the power button. Often when i put it to sleep and close the lcd, when i open it, it does not load up. Over all the computer does not perform well in the sense that it crashes and its not as fast as i thought it would be.

Have you tried reinstalling the OS or using the recovery CDs/partition to bring it back to it's original state? It sounds like that could solve a lot of your issues.

That incredibly long shutdown is a frequent Vista problem, with more than just your computer. Happens generally when it runs updates or driver installations and carries something out in the shutdown process. Windows is too proud to accept its flaws and give you errors when they are happening, so just keeps claiming that it's shutting down. That's my theory, anyway...
(Or, in the case of fatal errors when booting, forces a hard reset to tell you in a nice window once the OS restarts... which is never going to happen, because it won't boot!).

Does the shutdown problem happen continually, or is it just after driver installs?

    To the OP: Hi,

what I also suggest is a clean install. There is a way to do that with the recovery CDs, just search around and you will find it (or check my XP guide, the recovery procedure is common for XP and Vista).

I suggest afterwards taking a look at my Vista optimization guide, and cleaning up your system. That should take care of your performance issues, and long shutdowns.

Be aware, as pickelsworth says, that during the first few days of installing updates, indexing etc. Vista will perform more poorly. Once it settles down you should be fine.

Furthermore, if you send your notebook away for repairs, backup your data. This is explicitly stated on the RMA form. If needed, they will wipe the HDD clean without giving it a second thought.

Mac Man: let's not over generalize, shall we?

But this has been fixed in SP1 :), or even on a regular update I think.

A clean install could probably fix a lot of things. Also download the SP1 RC

You can read about it here... but I wouldn't install it over a faulty base-Vista install. I would definitely clean-install Vista before trying this out...

    Just my 2¢.

i suggest a fresh reinstall of xp sp2 see if better. if not, do memory test with memtest. i'm still using xp, and hopefully for few more years to avoid vista.

if you havent already. you need to update your webcam drivers. dont ask why...but its a known issue on the F3Sv series. The cam drivers do not allow the computer to shut down properly.

unk3, I want to stress again you need a clean install. If the install is significantly faulty there is no point in trying to fix it.

Maybe this is already clear to you, but I don't want to take chances. :)
