Okay I have selected the laptop which I want to buy (Asus G-1). Now my parents are wanting to put the purchase on the Best Buy card so they get Reward Zone points towards items in the future, which I can't blame them. However I want to swap out the 160gb 5400rpm HDD with a 100gb 7200rpm HDD, like at MilestonePC. My father and I went to the Best Buy for Business store today and asked the sales rep. If I could infact do what I wanted to do. Turns out I cant, the lady that helped us was utterly useless but I won't go there. Is it even possible for me to customize my laptop through Best Buy? Or do they sell just the standard system only?

If I can not infact customize through Best Buy, MilestonePC is going to be the one I go with. Does anyone have any reccomendations that I can show my father about how Milestone is a good company? He's just worried about if something goes wrong and I'll have to ship it back all the way to California (we live in Cincinnati, Ohio) which will take awhile. Do they give you speedy service, and delivery? I already know they will let me customize the laptop to what I want so that isnt an issue. Does anyone else have any info on MilestonePC? Information would be greatly appreciated. I'm very close to my purchase of this laptop..I can't wait :) Thanks

you can always just upgrade the hd by yourself. bestbuy will not upgrade it for you. both proportable and btotech will let you customize the hds as well and will be closer to where you are. resellerratings.com will give you feedback on resellers.

I bought mine from Milestone PC this week and am completely happy. I ordered it Tuesday evening and it was on my doorstep Friday afternoon. That was with the standard ground shipping. I would definately buy again from them.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to PM me.

Last I recall, the BB's here do upgrade it for you, but it'll cost alot, I recall going from a 100gb 4200rpm to 160gb 5400rpm costs almost $350.

    ^qft.

Do it yourself and follow some simple online directions. The HD is one of the easiest items to upgrade/switch, so don't sweat the small stuff, and do as rhcpcrony says. I wonder about the real benefits to upgrading your HD for a smaller capacity drive of higher speed, though. It's not much from what I gather, especially considering the higher data-density of the 160gb drive...

you are very correct. i currently have a 100 gb 7200 rpm in my possession, and the benchmarks are very, very similar to the 160 gb 5400 rpm benchmarks

Wow quick replies. Personally I am going to go with the easy way out and just have the place where I buy from install the HDD. I know alot about desktop computers and their parts but know little to nothing about laptops. I don't want to fiddle around with something I'll be using for years to come.
