    hi,

well i've been hitting these forums looking up and asking every question I can. I had narrowed it down to asus a8js or if i stretched a little the g1. Was instructed to try out a 14 and 15.4 IRL. Luckily my family happened to have both. Ended up liking the 15 better so I have been sitting here waiting on BB's (150 instant rebate online) which has yet to actually happen.

Dad asked what laptop I was looking at and told me not to compromise because I "have to have it now". So i told him of Santa Rosa and DX10 (i game quite a bit).

So now I have to decide buy now, or wait. But how long until another 15 inch version of the g1 with same rez will be packing a dx10 and actually SHIPPING them? (asus preferred).

Another concern is when getting a new model often many bugs (hardware and software) to work out.

Anyways this is me and my rambling thoughts. If i do buy g1 how long will dx 10/9 games keep being released (opposed to just dx10)

lastly i'll have 1800, 1900 after tax and shipping so will this even put me in the running in the first place?

    thnx

I can't exactly tell you how long this will be, but I am in the same dilemma as you. Should I buy a laptop now and regret buying it when these new things come out, or buy one because they might not be so great?

I say that you wait, since its only a couple weeks for Santa Rosa(and a day for dx10 :) ). If the ratings aren't too hot, you can always buy the "older" technology.

As for how long, I'd say late June til August is when the new stuff should be rolling out.

WEll if you like the z37 wait for that one.

As far as the a8js I hadnt heard of a new one until august.

Now the g1 I hadnt heard a thing. I would think that the g1 would have a 8600 go , like it might even be the first one. That would certainly sell well.
The g1 is not goin away, but it was introduced in dec. So they usually dont make a computer for 6 months and then make a new one. They do sometimes but not usually.

You may be waiting a while - if ASUS' launches are anything to go by, their new refreshed Core 2 Duos didn't come out for a while (mostly) after the Merom launch.

You'll probably see Dell and HP pick up the new platform earlier. So as coriolis said, you'll probably be waiting until June-July-August for the new batch of high-end ASUS.

Frankly, I think you're looking at back-to-school sales for refreshes early...and probably by Christmas 2007.
