I saw on asus's website that you can buy a new motherboard for w3j. So i was thinking is it possible to turn your w3v to w3j? I know that i will probably have to get a new cpu and memory is there anything else i should know about? I know my warranty will be void.

    thanks,

That is not possible. The only thing you can reuse from the w3v is your screen and frame. You cant reuse the bottom, top cover, motherboard, video card and everything in between,.

Not only that, the W3v has PCMCIA on its MoBo, while the W3j has ExpressSlot, so that is completely different in the frame. The chassis is not 100% the same, there are small modifications and changes to the internal structure.

When you switch between chipsets a lot can change and the size and location of the thermal envelope changed to fit a bigger gpu on the new model, which changed a whole lot, even battery pin locations...... Basically.. they share the same keyboard, lcd, and lcd lid....... The lcd bezel is the same just a different color, but you'd need a new battery, bottom case... technically you can use the same top case, but the new model IS different...

It's not really worth it...... you'd need new ram, a new cpu..... you're getting into a lot. I'd say the upgrade would be worth it if something happen to the motherboard and some how you got insurance money somehow.... say you shipped it somewhere and they damaged it...... but even then it's questionable because you're looking at between 1/2 and 2/3 of the original value in the cost of all the parts you'd need.
