I got a w3v a few days ago, and it was sweet. I loaded notebook hardware control, all my apps and everything. I was really happy. Then I woke up one morning (about two days after I got the notebook) and the darn thing WON'T TURN ON. The LEDs turn on, but the screen stays black, no beeps, no post, no asus logo, nothing.

Has anyone had this problem? I think I've got a lemon. I've tried with and without the battery, hitting the reset button on the bottom. Do you think its bad memory? A bad cpu? Or worse?

My dealer is getting back to me on monday about replacing it. If not, I'll have to send it back to asus tech support and have them repair it or replace it. If the dealer says they will replace it, should I do that? Or should I have ASUS fix it? I like this one because it doesnt have any dead pixels. I dont want to risk getting one with dead pixels.

Anyone got any advice for me? Im so depressed. :(

    Hmmm, hard to say here...

I'm thinking your RAM is faulty, or your motherboard fried...

Also, have you pressed the power button then left it for a few minutes? It could be a bad LCD connection if you hear the fans turn on, etc.

If it were the RAM you would get a beep error code, same goes for anything else which the motherboard can detect.

If your getting no beeps, chances are your mother board is faulty or your power supply.

It should be replaced.. DO NOT get it fixed if it's this new, you will only have more problems with it down the road.

yup nautica seems to be rite here, i persoanly experienced this with my deskstop... i was messing around with my Motherboard with my friend who knows alot about computers. So after messing around with it, i fried or damaged it =\ and we were able to tell because nothing beeped, even without the ram, the thing won't beep, and so then we realised the mobo is dead.

you needa take it back and get a new one, sry to hear this, but yah lemon =\ :asus: sry =\ Hope you get a new one soon.

You gotta remember, these are machines, not all off the assembly line are perfect=\.

    Thanks,

No beep no creep no nothing but power on = CPU goes byebye. Sniff the side vent see if you smell any burn. And send it in for replace. Can't be ur fault unless u set it to turn CPU fan off completely.

I talked to an ASUS tech guy today and he said that it could be the RAM too, because these notebooks won't beep if theres a problem with the RAM. I'm gonna try another stick of ddr2 tomorrow and see what happens. I'll let everyone know what happens.

my m5n did the whole black screen thing. It was the ram. Seems the connection was bad. I jiggled it a bit, and it kinda fixed it. Then, I took it out and I fried it with the static (I was in bed. it was cold.). Ram module was replaced and it works perfectly now. I also bent in the retention tabs so it would be a bit more secure. See what happens.

Guys arent gonna believe this... IT WAS THE RAM.

The stick of Kingston PC2-4200 came in today that I was originally gonna use as an upgrade... instead I replaced the old RAM, and voila.... back to life.

Ok Im gonna do some burn-in tests, etc. to make sure this thing is stable. Anybody have a good one in mind?

Prime 95 has a torture test option and SiSoftware Sandra has a burn-in option.

i had similar symptoms, when my w3v ran out of battery while in standby mode.
it wouldn't turn on anymore after recharging. blue power led is on, screen stays black, no beeps, no asus logo, no nothing. reset hole on the backside didn't help, taking out the battery didn't help etc.

finally i managed to get it back by first turning it on, so that the blue power led comes on. then, in the state where it does nothing anymore, i turned it off by holding the power button for 4 seconds. after that turn it on back again and voila it booted up again.

just posting this in case anyone has a similar case.. cause i wasted quite some time taking the w3v apart to test the memory etc.

If anyone runs into this problem again, you can try the reset button the bottom of the unit. You'll need a paper clip to push it.

    HTH someone in the future.
