Sometimes when I come out of hybernate the fan wont come on, even if the CPU rises to 80 degrees and this makes the hard drive rise to 55. I can still change power states with power4gear but the fan doesnt work until i reboot

    Still on Bios 2.09a

Clean the dust off of your fan and get a notebook cooler.

And try a different BIOS, or even just rewriting it with the same version.

Are you using any fan control / ACPI software like Everest, SpeedFan? If so, remove.

The fan should work even if there's a lot dust; if there's enough dust that the fan doesn't start you're in big trouble and should clean it right away. :)

Agreed - if you haven't already, try A11 (though I don't remember seeing any fan speed fixes in the change log). Dust shouldn't completely stop the fan from coming on.

What is the proper way to clean out the vents and fan? I remember Justin posting a picture on here a long time ago of a laptop that had never been cleaned and got clogged up real bad and started overheating. I don't want my w3j to end up like that ;). I have some compressed air and thus far all I've done is spray it in the vents - is that sufficient?

I've experienced this exact issue several times before aswell and if i recall correctly my w3j was on version 2.09a at the time. Fortunately it's yet to happen on latest Bios version (that's around 3 months trouble free). So I'd strongly recommend updating.

take the main access panel off the bottom. remove all the screws (10 i believe). Note the 2 long screws and wher they came from. Remove just the fan if possible not the entire heatsink. remove all the gunk off the copper radiator that touches the fan exaust on the inside. thats all

It's probably the BIOS then (or physical fault in the fan but that's more unlikely). Update BIOS, please.
