just curious, i have a u80v with 4 gb of ddr2 memory which i'm told is the max. however, would it be possible to upgrade it to 4 gb of ddr3 memory? if so, how big is the jump in performance from ddr2 to ddr3?

    tia

edit: notebook specced as DDR2 800 MHz SDRAM, 2 x SODIMM socket for expansion up to 4GB SDRAM. i'm already at the 4gb

If your notebook takes DDR2 you cannot upgrade to DDR3. It will not work. Ever. Don't even think about it. Or you'll be the next guy who cut his PCIE grapics card to fit his AGP/PCI slot

DDR2 and DDR3 are physically and electrically slightly different. DDR3 doesn't show noticeable improvement over DDR2, and it won't fit in a DDR2 slot unfortunately. It seems your RAM is maxed out already.

yeah they are the same number of pins and physically similar but they are keyed differently, you cannot insert them in each other's slots.

Actually, DDR2 has 200 pins while DDR3 has 204. Either way, they are not interchangeable.

    I have a u80v 64 bit Win 7 O/S - laptop with a T6600 processor. A couple of questions:

    1. Why is it saying 4GB max when i see other units with a T6600 upgradeable to 8GB, plus they can accommodate DDR3. (Always thought the 64 bit and the Processor were what dictated the RAM limits)

    2. Is the Radeon HD 4570 Graphics card upgradeable and if so, what would be a good card to put in there?

I am currently thinking of just getting the HP dm4 (i5 460m) becuz there are crazy good deals and i love the light bronze aluminum casing... But my Asus u80v is almost brandy new, and i was wondering is there anything (other than overclocking) that would make it "lightening fast" (no laffing : )

    thanx y'all : )

Download CPU-Z and check if you have DDR2 or DDR3. You can only upgrade the same type of memory as you currently have. And no, it's the chipset that determines the memory limits of your computer then the BIOS. 64-bit only allows you to utilize more than 4GB of memory. Also, you cannot upgrade the GPU. To make your computer faster, you would have to tell us your uses for it - then we can find the bottleneck. Typically, most users will experience the most benefit with a SSD.
