I had been seriously looking into buying the u30jc but was put off by the fact that no one sells it with the i5

I went to the asus support forum to find out about getting it with the i5 and discovered that the u35jc and the u45jc were listed. I then did a search for the u45jc but it only came up with a couple of norweigian sites with no screenshot. The specs on all every website was listed as:

This leads me to believe that it is the u35jc with an optical drive that asus was mentioning.

Anyone have any idea what this is about?

here are the sites I saw it on:
    ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum-
    inWarehouse.se - ASUS U45JC 14" HD LED
    Komplett.no - ASUS U45JC 14" HD LED

i believe it's more the same as the U30Jc, except it's 14" instead of 13". i'm having the same problem as you (not being able to find anything except for european sites offering it) so I'm thinking about switching to the Dell Vostro 3400 (or 3300 for a 13") has more basic options and better pricing imo

There are some trade offs in picking the 3300 over the u30jc
It comes with a 4 cell battery no matter what and if you want an 8 cell...
You also can't get them to ship it with 8gb memory.
The other quirk is that the 14" has a slower processor than the 13" (I don't really care that much considering the difference is 140mhz, I just thought it was strange)

Either way, you're getting a better processor than the u30jc

p.s. Thanks for the post, I did a search on this site for the u45 before I posted this but I couldn't find anything!

This is exactly what I have been wanting, a 14" version of the U30. Now only if Asus could get off their asses and release some notebooks we could all be happy. What's the deal with this company and their constant refreshes that take forever to come out??
