Sorry but newbie question here, what does 16GB SSD 1GB memory mean? Is it the same amount as 160GB?

    Thanks so much

No, it is 1/10th the side of a regular HDD. A SDD(Solid State Drive) is a different type of drive than a HDD(Hard Drive Disc). SSDs, comparably, are usually much faster drives than HDDs, and much more durable from shock. They are a lot more expensive than regular HDDs, so you cant get nearly as much space for the same money, but its good for people who are using it simply for an operating system, internet access, running basic applications and programs, because it pulls them up off the drive and boots up a lot faster than a regular HDD. Its basically like you have 16Gb of RAM which has all your data on it.

If you are looking for more space on the laptop for storage, than you would definitely go with an HDD, but if you aren't using it for very much storage at all, then a SSD would be ideal.

That, and the 1Gb of memory, I'm assuming you are looking at EeePCs, is how much RAM the laptop has, basically how much memory used as a buffer for running processes. The more ram and the faster the ram, the more applications the laptop can handle at a time and the faster they can run those applications. Most of the EeePCs running XP, whether they have a SSD or HDD have 1 Gb of RAM, as its independent of what type of hard drive it has.

1Gb of RAM is plenty for a netbook just running XP, but you should be able to upgrade the EeePCs to 2 gigs if you ever decide to.
