i was just using ms word while i had world of warcraft open when the screen started flickering a bit. the battery light would go on then off when this happend. it would happen for a couple seconds then stop then it did it again about 5 minutes later. i have been using the laptop mostly with it plugged in, however i was using it unplugged when this was happening. any idea what this is, does this look like any kind of symptom? i guess im a little paranoid as this is my first laptop, loose battery maybe? i might have bumped the latch for the battery release on the bottom possibly, as i was using it in my lap. thanks in advance.

Don't know if this would help, but.... What kind of power management utility are using? And are you currently underclocking or overclocking? Or is it all... um... "regular"? Also, did you pop out your battery and reinsert it?

Take a hard look at the battery.. make sure it's keeping a charge. We had a few Z71v batteries from 3-4 month old systems that seem to be screwy. Asus said they've seen a some too and they are looking into it as it's certainly not normal. I'd just say start there, there and make sure it's holding a charge and there isn't anything else going on. Also, see if you can repeat it with the power plugged in....... if you can't, but can repeat it when just on battery, it's an obvious place to look at.

WHen you are testing with the machine in AC mode, remove the battery and see if the problem still persists. Batteries that short can really drain the power supply and cause the laptop to act erratic.

Justin, I must say I'm a little anxious to see what Asus says about these batteries. I just got my brand new Z71v, and just LOVE IT. But the battery (using Mobile Monitor) says it has a 3% wear. My M3np, which I've had for 10 months, has a 1% wear and still lasts 4.5-5 hours on a charge!

Yeah, I don't know... the funnny thing is, the internals on these cells the same as the Z70 (M6) and the W1........ and never a problem in a year and a half plus while using those.

There *might* have been a bad batch and if that's the case Asus will do something about it.
