I'm battin a zero with getting any responses on my emails. dang! Hopefully, someone has an answer for this...

Is there any way to get the low power settings of "battery saving" when on Ac power?

Heat and noise wise, it's a dream to use the computer on batteries. On ac, it gets a bit toasty.

What are YOU doing with power4 gear?

Not really any good way...... When you're on AC you have what.. dvd, high performance and super performance. If you modify dvd for instance, you can use that just when on AC..... but also have the higher performance mode available.

You could just use Centrino Hardware Control...

I've tried modifying the Game mode, but it doesn't seem to want to allow cpu changes.

With "auto performance" unchecked, the CPU performance level stays at 100 percent. No matter what level I set it to and save, it always reverts to 100 percent.

with "auto performance" checked, the CPU is dynamically switched (it seems), but not nearly as effectively as when on Battery power.

I would LOVE to find out why that happens. Any Ideas?

Centrino Hardware control -- elaborate, please.

Yes, power4gear is really annoying and I don't like it. It doesnt give you enough control over the cpu, I installed it and got Rightmark CPU clock utility instead. It will automatically clock down/up your up based on your usage. You can have it clock down the cpu when on battery and also while you're plugged in.

Centrino Hardware Control does basically the same thing. It also gives you cpu temp, hd temp, and gpu speeds. Haven't tried the Rightmark utility....

I'm trying the centrino hardware control. So far, between speedswitch xp, power4 gear and CHC, I like CHC the best.
I'll have to try the Right mark utility.

Finally - this thread is helping me out!

Well, thus far Centrino Hardware Control has pleased me to no end. It is a superior program to Power4 gear.

On bootup, my system ran for about ten minutes with the fan off.

Then, it kicked in at 45 degrees and is holding steady. For doing normal office work, this is great. I notice no hit in performance without dynamic switching and I've made no undervolting changes.

This is all with bios 0702.

Wow I am going to second what was said above. I can't actaully tell what power4gear actaully does, it only seems to control the hibernate times, hard drive times, etc... not actaully the performance (correct me please if I am wrong.) CHC boosted my battery life, and gave me quite a few more setting that I like to have. And for anyone that had low sound problems, although I never found this to be a problem, this program seems to boost the volume. Definatly worth looking into, so far it seems quite stable and reliable. Thanks for yet another useful tip!! :asus:

I guess you could. I still have in on my computer, I just disabled the auto start so that it no longer starts up with the computer start up. Basically the same as uninstalling it.

...Is there a way to remap the power4gear button (say, on the W5a) to then do something else?

    Thanks,
