notebook wont power on

i am having an asus x80n laptop which doesnot startup and i mean when i press the power button it gives green light on power indicator and on the on indicator for a second and afterwards it gives no response,when i try to again press the power button it totally gives no response and you have to take the battery out or power supply out to have the same one second blink response .the condition of this notebook was not this same it was working fine but when i tried to start it again in the morning it didnt start but the condition was different as to previous stated means i pressed the power button it went fine through the stages like blinking the right indicators through fan getting on but it got stuck before when the asus screen comes leaving me with no response on screen,i read many places on the internet that its solution is to press the power button for atleast 45sec without batt...etc i did that for 3 to 4 times and it worked but that was just a luck because it did the same not getting start thing again and again leaving me in a state that it will turn on when it wants so i used it with some fear and i installed new windows and i restored all the bios settings to manufacturers so this laptop which i love now goes in a more meanner and bader phase when i left it in standby mode ,it was stuck there so i switched it off manually but again i managed to turn it on but at the other day when i pressed power button it gives or blinked lights and shuts off but then again after trying and trying i managed to get it on but now i am completely stuck with on light blinks for just a second an thats it no progress i really need help as you see and will appreciate any assistance

Before you tear apart the block that sounds just like your battery is dead as you hit the power button it drains the last voltage left and dies. Have you checked that the AC/DC supply is ok? If its not getting power to the laptop then thats why its having this problem. I would have though you would get no response if you Mobo is melted.

Edit: Try wiggling the power supply in the laptop and see if you get a battery charging light? Or if it flickers that would tell you the connection is faulty.

 

thanks for your reply because i am too fustrated and was going to open my laptop right now but now i am going to wait for your reply and yes when the notebook is turn off its battery charges but i have to unplug the ac plug and the battery then again put it back ,so the ac plug or charger and battery is a ok ,battery was well charged i remember maybe 87percent when it stops turning on and can you confirm when mobo fries notebook gives no response pls for my information .and also i always use my x80n placed on a cooler .I personally think if any hardware was damaged it would have not been starting again and again from the start means when it started to give me freaks.so pls provide me with some video or help to dissasemble my laptop to tight what is loose pls

 

Firstly is your Laptop under warranty? If so dont open it up, secondly I cant help you with the dissaembly but i would assume its pretty straight forward to open up most of the rear sections to get to the hardware. I really doubt its the mobo so if its other hardware these should be easily accessable.

The only other thing it could be is your LCD screen, I read somewhere that this happens when the LCD screen goes to turn on but cant and shuts down you will have a few seconds prior to the video card turning on. The way to test this is to plug the external port onto a tv and run the laptop through that when you turn it on.

The removing battery adapter and holding the power for 30 seconds is just draining the remaining voltage from the notebook I dont think this has anything to do with your problem if you battery is charging and it makes no difference your problem I reckon lies with your video card or screen.

Test the above and let me know. If it does the same on an external screen then it sounds like your GPU is fried.

 

thanks again for your reply and no its not under warranty and now i am going to set my hd tv with my notebook or my monitor of my pc ,i hope x80n will pick it up and yesterday i think it gaved me two blinky lights instead of one so i think improvement and also i remember when it first happened and i mean this condition which is second condition same to this one but in this i am not able to on it but it happened before in this whole cycle but it did also turned on once in this same condition ,i am saying these are two conditions because in that i managed to turn the laptop on and i did played devil may cry 4 on it .. okay back to what to do ... ill check and post thanks

no luck i tried external screen but it did not pick it up ,this is normal because it does that too when it was fine ,it picks it after os starts ,the progress is that i have dissasemble it to cpu ,ram ,hardidsk ,fan but no luck and going for cmos battery but dont know where it is on mobo

 

Have you tried removing the GPU and powering it up yet?

As I said above I doubt it going to be anything like what you have removed and doubtful its the Mobo. Its going to be the video card. Remove the GPU and power it up and if it starts but with no screen there is your problem.

 

sorry for this late reply ,every day i am checking my mail but havent received any notification for this one.the thing is i have searched every where to download a dissasembly guide but there is non for this model i have downloaded many other guides for asus notebooks but the closest is A8 series in built but when it goes to there gpu ,there gpu is near the fan but with x80n its i think under the keyboard because it is not visible or there not where the A8 is so i am unable to check whether its the gpu or screen mainly i am stuck i am so sad and without my notebook

 

The GPU will most likely be covered with a Heatsink so it may not be visible. If you google your model type in dissasemble with it and select images you should be able to find a screeny of it im sure!

Are you able to whip the back off? unscrewing the main compartment should present the CPU & GPU.

You just need to unscrew it and remove the heatsink and get the GPU out, most come with exactly the same setup as the CPU and you have to unlock it and then it will slide out. Once its out make sure heatsink is back in it previous position to make sure CPU conducts and turn her on. If she starts as normal but with no screen thats the nail on the head. If the same persists. Im stumped.

 

yes iam happy to tell you guys that i went for vacations for 5 days and when i came back i assembled my notebook which i left half disassembled and it worked ,it only gaved me bsod and stripes but i open the lcd and its plugs and align all the needles and now its all fine the thing now iam worried is about cooling gel of processor and that rubber thing of gpu ,iread somewhere you have to reaply it after removing the fan and the cooling part so pls tell me this and also can you pls tell the average temps of x80n or in general notebook eg.gpus,cpuss,etc because i am using it now so i can monitor it iam using speed fan and hwmonitor

 

Hi again,

If you have removed the heatsink that attachs to the CPU and GPU then YOU MUST reapply the thermal compound or you will face overheating issues.

You need a get a thermal paste I recommend Diamond or Arctic Silver 5 and there are two ways to apply the paste that people argue over but either works.

1. Clean off all of the old paste from the heatsink and the CPU and GPU.

1st way is to apply a small pea sized amount of compound to both chips and then reseat the heatsink over it then press back into place without it moving it from side to side and reattach the clasps. The heatsink will spread out the compound for you this way.

2nd way is to apply again a pea sized amount but use an old credit card to smooth out the compound to create a thin layer covering the entire chip and then attach the heatsink.

Either are good but personally I like the Pea and apply way as smoothing out sometimes leaves gaps. You dont need a lot it must be thin and not leak out of the sides when the heatsink is attached.

It still sounds like your GPU is on the blink and I believe you will face more problems with this but if it isnt broken dont fix it is my motto. At least you know now what I said earlier was right it does sound like your GPU maybe it had come loose and was shorting out your mobo!

GPU baking time! If its out of warranty and good as dead (bad pixels,etc) you could give it a shot by baking it. There are various baking guides..

Here is a guide written by me how to do this, successfully.

However, it contains Plenty of other links to these and other forums where ALL users fixed it successfully. So give it a read and decide if it is worth the trouble!
