uhm, just wondering if the Z70a and Z71a have the option for no-stretch scaling in the vid drivers
(any notebook I would ever get has to play Jagged Alliance 2 nicely [8D] 4:3 only)

no it's not. (then again, drivers are software too [ :p])

anyways, if anyone tried to run some (older) 4:3 only games on that Intel 915 integrated vid let me know

Well, what I'm saying and I should have elaborated on that anyway..... different players can play in different aspect ratios...... media player is basic and I don't think you have a chance with it there.... I think ASUS DVD (cyberlinks power dvd) can do it, but I haven't used it in a while. Like I've said before I like nvidia' NV DVD because it has the best sound and video output..... I am sure that has those options.

As far as games... I don't know....... dvds are one thing... I think in the ati and nvidia driver package you might be able to play around with that.... but I'd have to seriously check on the integrated 915 chipset drivers....

    Thanks,
    Justin

ya, I was only talking about games (that's why I mentioned my favourite one :), which is the only game I would likely play on a laptop, and the only one I really care about looking right on a widescreen lappy should I end up with one) - and that's definitely not a software issue. as far as I've seen no dvd/media players have any problems with keeping aspect ratios correct.

nVidia drivers have the no-stretch scaling option, Ati's don't (though some 3rd party drivers for Ati cards do if I remember correctly) I just have no idea about the intel integrated chipset (either the option in the drivers or the default behaviour)
