So during the vista beta installation, it prompts for a restart. After restarting the computer, it sends the computer on an endless cycle (essentially it loads the load up screen over and over again). So i figure, Vista did some bad stuff, and i get my recovery discs.

After popping in recovery disc one, and then recovery disc two, and then the drivers and utilities disc, windows now tells me my preinstallation is complete and that i should remove my drivers cd.

After the reset, i get the endless cycle again!

somethings ive tried include running setup from i386/winnt. The recovery procedure seems to have worked, because when i pop in my XP PRO cd, it can show me my C: as recovery, and D: and E: as my other partitions.

    What to do?

Well kids what did we learn? Its a beta for a reason. Vista is so far from ready its not even funny. It reminds me of how bad the first copys of win95 were. cant wait to see the final product though.

gusto5 your not the only one experiancing this, another person just had the exact same problem, and did the same thing as you did.

I personaly would just format the WHOLE hard drive and start from scratch, from here you can try Vista again, and if it works, use it, but i really think that the endless reboot will occurr again.

So just install XP and leave Vista alone.

If you can't format the entire HD due to important data, try to use a USB external case and hook it up to your desktop and transfer everything you need.

Also if the HD doesn't allow you to format it, then take it to your retailer or have the HD RMA'ed and start with a brand new hard drive.

    Thanks,

    Use fdisk
delete partition, remake a partition, reinstall.
vista installed fine on my v6j

so the real problem is vista is leaving stuff behind that wont let XP recover from the recovery discs? im currently choosing the option of recovery that "deletes all partitions"
