    Hi,

I am considering getting an Asus A8JS, but am thinking that the laptop's graphics card will most likely produce a lot of heat (just like the Geforce 4 Go in my Toshiba Satellite).

Also, I might also consider the W7J. Will this one have probs overnight? The Geforce 7400 should be alot less heat-producing than the 7700..

Will leaving my Asus on overnight (or even a few nights in a row) produce any problems in the long run (or even in the short run)??

I've left my Toshiba on overnight alot, and even weeks at a time, but now its starting to die with overheating problems after 4 years..

    Thanks

As long as you aren't running graphics intensive apps overnight, you should be fine.

Heat related damage after 4 years? How so? That's odd

Have you ever opened up the Toshiba and cleaned out the fans and little heat fins. I had a Dell XPS laptop and after only six months from new, a tech opened it up and showed me how much crap had built up... OMG, it was covered in dust and hair!

Other than that, someone smarter than me will answer your question...

Ditto that...... However, I'd suggest putting your notebook in standby overnight regardless..... The only reason to leave it ON on, would be to say keep AIM connected or something like that... I'll tell you right now that it's better to put them all into standby... By default closing the lid will do that and I would suggest it. Another problem with leaving it open is that you'll find a TON more build up of dust and stuff if you do that.

Ya, a 6 month cleanup of the fans is essential, and you'll notice it will be quieter after you do so as well.

I left my G732 which got really hot with its desktop P4 and full clocked (but not overclocked 99% of the time) ATI Radeon 9000 for weeks sometimes when I was seeding/downloading or when I was hosting a website or even encoding MP3/AVI files with it and I had no issues. Having said that I didn't leave it on unless i had to, especially in anything that was very intensive, even if I was gone for 30 mins with no reason to leave it going I'd put it to Standby, saves power, and will result in longer laptop life.
