got an X5 version without the internal Bluetooth. Looking to add it. Asus does not sell the part on their site. Anybody have one from a gutted G50? BT253 by AZware is the part...
    thanks

I also have an X5 too and would this void my warranty?

As long as you don't tamper with the "warranty void is removed" sticker, then you should be fine.

Check with the disassemble guide HERE

As my high school teacher once said "there's never a dumb question, only dumb people asking questions" :p :D J/K

You can download the bluetooth driver from the Asus website. Also check your drivers disk - even though your G50 unit didn't come with a BT module, it's very likely that Asus would just make one drivers disk for all G50 models.

I really want to install it but I am really nervous about opening up my laptop and not knowing what I am really doing and breaking/frying something in the process.

I guess I could go someplace (Would bestbuy do it? I Don't know any local computer repair/stores near me) to get it installed, and if I can't find one I would get the USB bluetooth dongle.

I'm not sure if BB would do it. But if they do, they will charge you an arm for the labor cost (definitely more than the BT module itself).

I currently have a miniature Kensington usb 2.0 Bluetooth Module. It works great, but I'm thinking of freeing up myself a USB port and garnering that internal piece instead.

What I need to know, if you know, is if the proper wiring for the Bluetooth dongle is already there or will I need to request that from ASUS as well.

That is way too much $$ for me to even consider spending on a single bluetooth module. But if you're comfortable spending $70+ on it, by all means :)

I'm not 100% certain, but my best guess is that you don't need any extra wiring. There is a slot for you to insert the BT module, and it's basically plug and play.

That's not too bad i guess. I was thinking more in the $100+ range since they charge you $30 for just uninstalling bloatware.

you will also need the cable:
    http://www.asusparts.eu/product_info.php?products_id=3017

After cracking m G50VT open, I saw I was missing the cable. Ordered two of them as I have two of the BT modules. That way I can pass on the BT as a set to a lucky person wanting to do the upgrade as well...

I can see no differences in the two BT modules. I have both and no diff as I see it. One does show as a BT 2.1 and the other does not state this.

    Hi bboretsky. Firefishe here.

I was wondering, do you still have that extra bluetooth module and cable? I have a G50Vt-X1 (BestBuy) and want to add that little gem to my laptop.

Please contact me if you do. I can also be reached via email at [email protected] .

    Warm Regards,
    Firefishe

P.S. Incidentally, do you know where I can find the modem module-and-cable, as well? That's another item left out on the Best Buy G50Vt-X1. It's just another board with a cable attached to it. After installation, I remove the rubber plug out of the modem port, and Voila! I"m back in the phone business. ;-) Thanks again --Fishe

P.P.S. I found a modem board on the same site Here. It's for the AS-G50V-1A (*probably* a/k/a: G50V-A1), and seems to be the only model that had the modem--as well as Best Buy's G50VM-X1, my original model and the first one I bought. I'm guessing at this modem board, but it seems to be the right one for this series.

I know this post on this thread is a few months old, but just a word to the wise: DO NOT TRUST BEST BUY TO FIX ANYTHING!

I had the most horrible experience with both them *and* Asus regarding my G50VM-X1 that was damaged by Asus's shipping dept. in Indiana. As for Best Buy, the local store where I live is forever without me as a customer, permanently.

Please see My Post for more information.

Just a word to the wise: Study Carefully, Proceed Slowly, Be Careful, Do It Yourself! You and You, Alone are the best and most careful repairman for your own machines. Just thought I'd share that with you. Good Luck!

    Warm Regards,
    Firefishe

If I am not mistaken, I believe that 2.1 is the updated Bluetooth standard. If either work, I'd go with the newer version.

    Warm Regards,
    Firefishe
