Does anyone know if an Intel i7-720QM Quad Core CPU 1.6GHz (2.8GHz Turbo) is compatible with my ASUS N53Jn?

My N53 currently has an i5-450M in it.

I've noticed the ASUS N61Jq uses the i7-720QM and that it also has the Mobile Intel® HM55 Express Chipset (same chipset as N53Jn).

I've compared the two CPU's at Compare Intel® Products, but I don't know.

I believe they use the same socket so your n53 should be compatible. However, I can't renember what i saw in similar discussions a while back so i'd wait for other replies before purchasing the i7. Oh and unless you do something some video encoding, your i5 is perfectly fine so why change it?

Those machines were actually designed for the i5 chips (the JQ models had the i7 processors in them) so it isn't guaranteed that the i7 will work with it. It may require a BIOS flash to the JQ BIOS, which can lead to "bricking" the machine if not done properly.

That and you have to check if you laptop can handle the TDP (thermal design power) of the i7 if it's higher than the one of your i5.
