So I've been lurking on this forum for a little while and I gotta say I LOVE everyone here for their input. I have been eyeing the n80vn-a1 as a replacement to my 3 year old franken-puter desktop. It seems like I'll love it however any owners of the n80vn-a1 can you tell me if it does infact HAVE bluetooth? or is it just BT capable? Thank you all!

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Although I do not have the N80Vn-A1, I can tell you that it does not come with bluetooth. <Strike>You can however, install a mini PCI-e bluetooth module yourself. These modules are pretty cheap and can be found on ebay for ~$25 </Strike>

You will need to purchase a bluetooth module from Asus as they use an internal USB proprietary module which is fitted under the top casing.

yay thank you! Now knowing this, can you add the internal BT to it? I read on the modding the n80vn-x1 you cannot add it to the x1 version which is the newegg edition. Can it be added to the A1? or do I have to bare down and get the B1 or X5?

I could do that and it's my last ditch idea, however I like the idea of having a nice sexy internal BT. It's petty of me but I like the idea of integrated. c'est la vie.

I think you have the mini PCI-e bluetooth modules confused with a USB bluetooth dongle. The mini PCI-e bluetooth modules are internal components. You'll have to open your laptop and install it to make it work.

Please buy from Gentech PC, Xotic PC, or one of the many "good" retailers. Please avoid buying a laptop from Newegg.
    Just my advise :D

and to answer your question, you can get mini USB bluetooth adapters too!
I have a friend who picked this up:

    worked quite well

I read your story and thats honestly really horrible of newegg. I have used newegg to build my franken-puter and for many other things. Reading your story will have me think twice next time. Well! I do want internal pci-e BT however reading from the modding n80vn-x1 gentleman(he's got balls doing that) said that the asus BT-183 module wouldn't work in his X1, I was curious if it would work in the A1. this

E: and I WILL be ordering from gentech PC. Seems very well put together and has his "A game" on.

Well, it may work, frankly, I would call asus and just ask for confirmation that it will.

I'd like to retract what I said regarding the mini PCI-s bluetooth module.

Apparently, Ken from GenTechPC has told me that Asus uses an internal proprietary USB module which seems like it can only be purchased from Asus' estore and some resellers.

cooooool! this is EXACTLY the answers for what I was looking for! however that second statement is proving to be difficult. I kinda tried to scour the asus estore and no avail of even finding that BT. I found a euro site that sells them for like 38 euros.

    http://www.asusparts.eu/product_info.php?cPath=67674_75578_75867_75957_75960&products_id=2515

honestly I'd rather not pay 48 euros to ship to my door.
