I bought my G1s about a month ago and i'm still struggling to get some things working. Any help and/or would be greatly appreciated.

    1. I really want to create a dual boot with Xp pro and vista premium, i followed the instructions i found on this forum by installing xp with the slipstreamed sata drivers on my Data (D:/) partition. I left Vista how is was. Xp installed fine, when i went to install VistaBootPro 3.3, i followed all instructions from that thread and i got the dual boot menu at startup. The problem was however that xp didn't work anymore and vista worked still. Anybody out there that has installed Xp pro as a secondary OS with vista already installed, your help would be appreciated.

    2. My second problem lies with eSata and my G1s/Vista. I recently purchassed a Seagate Barracuda 500GB hard drive and put it into a Bytech external alluminum enclosure. The enclosure has usb and esata out. after i formatted and initialised my hard drive though disk manager i can use it through usb, but not through eSata. The drive is not recognized as a hard drive when i try to use esata. I removed the jumper capping my drives performance at 1.5 gb/s but i replaced it when it didn't work. So i know it's not the jumper. would vista not be compatible with certain enclosures even if they're compatible with xp? Again any help or thoughts are appreciated.

have you tried directly connecting the drive with an Esata-Sata cable to see if its the drive at fault? BTW E-sata is 3.0gbps.

    thanks for the reply,

no i haven't tried that, but as i said above i am sure that it's not the hard drive, because it works via usb on my notebook, and it works via esata and usb on my desktop. Still any ideas because i set Asus tech support on it a couple weeks ago and the guy never emailed me back, and i doubt he will. he seemed to think that the g1s had a limit on the size of hard drive that we could connect via esata on the g1s. Any more ideas guys?

Do you have the latest eSata drivers from JMicron?

Perhaps it is the enclosure that has a limitation? My external eSata hd enclosure (Vantec Nexstar 3 260SU) has a limit of 160 gb. I installed my original Hitachi drive in it and put my WD Scorpio 250 gb in my G1S. I am successfully dual-booting FreeBSD and Vista.

also my problem with dual boot and xp is the audio driver doesn't seem to work. i have no problem installing xp, but after i use my bootloader vistabootPRO 3.3 my xp installation stops working, but i have access to vista through my bootlaoder. And it asks to me to repair. i tried that and it just got rid of the bootloader and it boots straight into xp without the chance to enter vista. I can only think of one other thing to try and i really don't want to try it. I could copletely format my disk and start by installing xp, then install vista second, but i really don't want to format because i think i would lose my copy of vista premium that came with the g1s.

Basically what you are doing is creating a USB Storage device with Windows XP that can boot on any computer. Is this possible? Yes, I have successfully did this with my desktop, just for fun, I haven't tried it with my laptop. But many state there is a good chance.

This is for creating an XP Pro Bootable USB External Hard Drive.

Follow those instructions, it is quite a bit of a process, also check out the forums and get help from them, technically they can do all the work for you, instead of you doing all these steps.

    Good Luck

thanks for the reply but i was actually trying to install xp on an internal drive with seperate partitions. as for eSata a friend and i have determined that it doesn't work with vista, because of the SCSI interface of eSata. Can anyone confirm this?

I got it to work finally, when I was installing vista I loaded the drivers before the install began. Got the drivers off ASUS website and put it on a DVD. After windows boots up for the first time, just install the setup.exe in the same folder as the drivers you loaded earlier.
